      you could have blocks like farm blocks that produce a food meta-item and ether need to be harvested manually (player or NPC) or place it in a storage where NPCs can access it. each NPC would need say 3 food/day or something like that this could also tie into a crew system...

      one possibility (forgive me if it has bean suggested) is having a different computer for shipyards on ships. this computer would have reduced efficiency, a limit on the number of blocks that could be connected and an increased power reqiament. a similar system could be used for factories on ships.

      make build mode so that some one in build mode can only be within his ships box dim or just out side of the box dim. this stops people using it to spy or plan for boarding.
