The only way the damage beams could not get out of the front end of your ship is if you have a barrel that's 500 meters long. That's like saying that a tear in the space shuttles' heat shielding armor should not be something to worry about until the shuttle is 10 seconds to liftoff. This is a part of what alpha is for. It's about fixing these kinds of serious issues so you can actually get to a stable beta.

Go to the "Community Content" tab. It's a subforum of the "forums" tab. Click on the sky-blue button in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen that says "Add Content" Fill in the necessary information for your blueprint; maybe a picture or two (they help a LOT).
