      Dreadnaught - Guidelines (Help!)

I've got one down to a 27m cube with a dock on the top face that can fit anything up to 61m, which let's me chain dock them. I haven't figured out a way to accurately determine how much power it provides per second, but I think its around 600k. The reactor modules are all straight lines...

Supply and Dema- er, I mean Drain

Well, with wireless logic access in the next version you'll be able to turn it on/off more readily But the shield drain beam is incredibly effective, I find. It continues to drain the targets shields even if your own are fully charged. Supplying it with enough power is the biggest issue.

      Dreadnaught - Guidelines (Help!)

Note that you can dock power reactor modules inside the ship as well if you build the bays and access tubes for it, and seal the door behind them. Huge power capacity is a must though. You'll probably want to use lock-on missiles on it as primary weaponry, maybe multiple computers. As long as...

      Capital ship effect.

Not sure making a ship a capital ship with different inherent attributes than other ships solely based on the mass exceeding a particular limit is a good idea. Perhaps, however, it could be designated from a module block that "permits certain advanced modules that normally only function on...

      How to make efficient scanners?

Anyone clear on whether or not the "there is a jamming/cloaking ship in the sector but out signal isnt strong enough to reveal it" message ever goes away? I've tried a 1000+ block scanner array on a ship that should only need ~100, and ensured the scanner was the longest axis of that ship...

Why do we still use 3 bytes per block?

I have about as much computer knowledge as a squirrel has understanding of algebra (none) but if there's a limiting factor on game content like number of unique blocks we can use, I wouldn't mind if it vanished. However, you mention only RAM memory in your post, not GPU memory. My laptop's...

A New "Wave" [Pirate Ship Community Contest]

I hope you dont mind if I join in late, but i didn't see this before. I've been needing an excuse to really test myself aesthetically and innovatively.

Why I think quality is better than quantity in terms of design and tactics

Minimizing the number of computers and modules also helps. But really, I feel that the better strategy will be to mix quality heavy weight units with inexpensive (although well built) light drones, using your warships as light carriers. You may still lose some warships, but fewer than if you...

What kind of playstyle do you favor?

Personally, I love games that can successfully combine more than one genre's mechanics and playstyles, and that is one of the things I love about starmade. You have the ability to build whatever you want (well, in terms of spacecraft, anyway), you can have dogfights, massive fleet battles...

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

Just from the difference in lighting between the line of blocks the drones are docked to and the space around it, I'd say those are on racks. In my own drone development news, I've designed and built a frigate with docking space for ~30 drones (on six 5-drone racks) Total frigate mass with...

An analysis of the relationship between planets, faction interactions and resource acquisition.

I love the idea of using some basic resources you can get anywhere for basic ship components. That way we don't need a specific environment to get started. However, on top of planets having resources unique to their geology (and I would love to see more in-depth thinking for planet geology than...

So...... Schema has made some changes to the space between galaxies..

I certainly see no reason to have so many stations. Perhaps one derelict station every system or every other system or less, an occasional pirate fleet on the move. It does need unique threats, though. There's obviously no such thing as total vacuum, but density shouldn't be the same as in a...

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

If the damage potential is so extraordinary, they could be used simply for ai-guided torpedoes (core, ai, disintegrator, push effect and weapon comp+module.) Much higher alpha damage than bombers equipped with large missile arrays, do you think? Of course dumbfire torpedoes wouldn't be targeted...

Snataris Colonial Fleetyards - NEW: HoloSuite Ultimate Edition

Sounds about like EVE mining. A very bad idea in space not expressly controlled by friendly fleets, and even then. I'd probably do it anyway. :P

      Cargo

I particularly like this idea: turn plex storqge units into a machine that compresses space within itself to store as much as you want, but all that mass is still there and adds to the mass of your ship, so sufficient thrust must be applied to move it efficiently. Freighters using plex storage...

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

I got a chance to update my game to v0.1867 and test the drone deployment again (i am ashamed to admit I was testing with the previous version.) No longer having issues with drones I launch attacking me. But no, I made sure the computers and drones were facing the correct direction. The drones...

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

I put the drones in my faction, and verified the push beam was set to 100% effect strength before firing. Not moving, no turrets involved, and no collision damage. I honestly think they hate being pushed. I'll have another chance to test tomorrow, though.

Make Warp Gate routes not visible for everyone

One possibility is to give gates a logic input they must receive to be brought online. If you want your gate to be open and known to the public, check the 'is visible to everyone' button (wherever it is decided to put that) and set up an activation block to keep the gate on at all times. In an...

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

I've tested deploying skoomdrones again, ai active. Only one of the four I launched activated its logic clock. All four of them agro'd my ship. I'm thinking the pushing beams are to blame, despite having 100% push effects. Since I "attacked" them when launching them, I was considered hostile...
