      Rail Mass Enhancers

I just now got the latest version to load for me and tried the rail mass limits, and found that a 6-block ship can act as a parent for a 580k+ block ship. It moves extremely slowly on the rail, yeah, but isn't there supposed to be a point where something just can't be docked anymore? edit; and...

      The Rail show off thread!

What exactly do you mean by that? Also, I'm totally putting rail operated ship-to-surface elevators on that planetary invasion craft I always wanted to build.

      Introducing... USD type 1 *updated*

Sven/krougal's suggestion will work fine for me. Although I notice they have the docker/rail on opposite sides of the center block. It doesn't matter which we actually use, just nail down that last detail, and you have a functional standard that, as krougal pointed out, should work for any door...

      Introducing... USD type 1 *updated*

Pretty much, yeah. :P I'd take a screenshot of what I really mean, but I can't get the game to update. It keeps either crashing on load, giving me an error during download, or not starting the game after the first launcher. I'm getting tired of downloading the same thing repeatedly.

      Introducing... USD type 1 *updated*

Drones and small singleships are not going to be easy to set up a standard for, unless the standard is simply to assume they can dock flush with a flat surface, like a hangar floor, and include a few rails-suspended-on-a-pedestal or suspended catwalk, perhaps, for the odd-one-out that can't dock...

      Introducing... USD type 1 *updated*

The proposed docking mechanism matches the one I'm already using almost perfectly, but we're going to need more coordination when the magnetic-only docking comes along. Right now I'm just assuming that a hermaphroditic docking port is going to have to extend out from the hull and have a little...

Easy drone cleanup + Get more from your ship! + Kiddan's Idea Thread

Unfortunately, warheads aren't nearly as effective as they used to be; they no longer bypass shields, for instance. I'm thinking it will turn out to be more efficient in terms of time and materials costs to just load a warship with lock-on missiles, preferably mounted in a very big AI turret...

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

Color me impressed that it works logically, but it doesn't look like an especially efficient mining method. Did it do that damage all in one rotation? Do subsequent rotations eat out different pattern, such that it will actually consume the entire plate?

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

I like the basic idea, but you wouldn't be able to leave the area; the game doesn't simulate sectors that aren't loaded, so if you moved such that the planet was no longer loaded, the whole sector gets offloaded and nothing happens until a player returns. Still, you can set a drone in motion to...

      The ultimate drone R&D thread

Sounds like a good way to cause the server to crash whilst processing all the physics calculations of those collisions. :P I've recently developed a corvette I intend to launch from carriers alongside regular drones/fighters. About 750 mass total. Has neat little turrets using the rail system...

Easy drone cleanup + Get more from your ship! + Kiddan's Idea Thread

The self-destruct drones and rotating cockpit both sound awesome to me. The warpgate probably not so much, except as an excuse to set up an ambush for enemies during war. Without the jaws, that's just silly.

      When Rails Drop

Turrets on rotating rings. If the target winds up on the opposite side of your ship from the turret, that's okay; the turret will spin around to face it anyway, eventually. Probably most important on large capital ships. They can even be entirely disassociated from the mothership; put all the...

      Will rails have shared shields?

Shield supply modules are still useful on smaller ships, though; it appears that if a ship is struck by a shield supply beam while the shields are down, it skips the remainder of the outage timer and the ship that received shields immediately starts regenerating its own shields, even if the...

      The awesome new combat meta

On the first point, the answer is no: last time I tried, a docked craft cannot jump while attached to the parent ship. Rail docked ships might be working differently because of the nature of the dev build being weird, if that's what you're using. You're right on the second, though: if a jump...

Cool things that could be made with rails

I've got a partial solution for that: If you put a wedge adjacent to your core and in reach of the logic you want to activate, you can sit on the wedge's 45* surface with the 'o' key, and from there activate the logic or enter/exit the core. When you exit the core, you will be sitting on the...

      The awesome new combat meta

I would actually love to have an interdiction computer+array available to counteract jump drives. First, define its behavior and usage: Once activated, it immediately affects all entities, regardless of allegiance, and begins draining their jump drive(s)' charge(s). If the drive has a lower...

      Feedback: New docking.

I'm actually thinking about using that method. I would install a gravity lift elevator for personnel transfer that extends from the station/mothership to link to smaller craft. Could probably get more advanced and use a rail elevator inside the docking tube for transferring objects, but a...

A New "Wave" [Pirate Ship Community Contest]

I'm probably going to be doing a quick one-up of a couple of my craft over the next couple days, if that's still permitted of course.

Kraken Fleet vessels - Pirate Contest 1

Five craft, group photo; Lineup: Shuttle - in the front-center. Largely symmetrical for atmospheric flight. Acts as a boarding craft as well, with its own breaching missile pod opposite the passenger airlock. Two simple beam turrets as additional support. Light Fighter - front, far left...

A New "Wave" [Pirate Ship Community Contest]

I've been playing with some ships I downloaded from the community board as pirates, and I've noticed you really only see the 3-4 cheapest of them spawn most of the time. I suspect that there's little point in having more than 5 pirate ships in the first place just because only the cheapest...
