      That is so much not how rail mass enhancers work. They increase the mass that it takes to slow down the rail system. If you have a total of 50 free mass and 500 mass worth of rail enhancers, then you will be able to dock anything that weighs less than 550 mass and have it move at full speed...

      That's the thing----they can, and do. They just slide into range, fire, and get out before return fire reaches them. Only disadvantage is if you have to rely on missiles to hold the range. LRM fire is vulnerable to PDTs.

      Turret do not need to be shrunken. However, cross-entity secondary-and-tertiary linking would be very nice. That way, you retain the volume of a turret, but can "hide" more of it in your hull in a more efficient manner (battleship-esque turret citadel/barbette, rotates with the turret)
