This is actually surprisingly well thought out. Well done. The only downside I see is that many people will most likely choose to have the smallest possible radius, just so they get more concentrated damage, I'd rather deal 150 damage to a small area than apply 16.666 damage to a bigger one.

I'd anticipate that it'd default to ship in that case, or deactivate and await further instruction.

Let's be honest here though, if you are Han Solo, you are probably either not in a faction, or in a pirate faction, and I doubt that a pirate faction will have a uniform. My greater concern is how such uniform layers will work with female characters.
