The only reason it might be a disadvantage is because you have given up a few more shield to give your ship somewhat of a soul. But because so many other aspects are unbalanced or not even in the game yet atm, trying to 'fix' this aspect of the game now without those fixed first would result in...
An interior isn't a disadvantage at all, as long as you don't go overdrive for it's size or dimentions. And an interior can also add space/armor to the ship instead of taking it away.
At some point ships become so large you missing a few 1000 more shields won't really matter anyway. Thinking...
I'll have to agree with Vyor.
Ppl that build interiors don't do it because they want boosts and won't stop building them. Ppl that don't build them have most likely reasons not to, but forcing this groep in building them with a need to have balancing mechanism will only result in abuse and...
I've been thinking about it aswell and came to the conclusion that this is a very cheap and very powerfull thing to have on bigger ships. Now combined with it's usefullness, slow near impossible gun vs gun fights with bigger ships and the low amount of weapons to counter it, you could attack...
Anything that would force ppl in building interiors would end up in poor builds and ways to aviod spending time in making/designing them yet benifiting it's boost(s).
As a person that loves building interiours in my ships I don't like the idea of getting boosts for building them nor the idea...

Wouldn\'t that make turrets really weak as the AMC part of the turret would need to be in the barrel/gun part. With the need of extenders and hull the only way of making a viable turret would be something like this.
(if you don\'t get it: the barrel or main turret part is supported by 2...
