It would totally be worth it, because this could be used as a force multiplier for those smaller factions out there that might end up having to fight bigger ones.
yeah this is true, we have said something about making beacons invulnerable. However, their trade off should be that there will be no offensive emplacements on it.
This was to get the factions to either invest time and players into offense defense roles, or for their to be automated defenses...

I could totally see some of this working and being an interesting add on to our idea. It certainly makes a clear end game for the conflict we are out to create with these faction control zones.
My suggestion is more or less of a balance issue. I do not think it would be a good idea for a small point defense turret to have the same shielding as the same ship it is attached to. Hence the idea that a turret should have 50 to 75% of the total shielding of the ship it is docked to .

This could open a niche market for hostile entity removal and extermination... Why risk sending in a factions own members when you could pay to have a team of people specialize in doing this.
I think our intent was to give a faction the ability to control and harvest resources. Of course without having to worry about needing to expend the resources necessary to create a fully operational base of operations.
Thus the reasoning for the influence zone being a small part of the system...
This could have applications for the use in faction home bases. You could use a map or something to show which star systems that a faction controls. Additionally, you could use the same map to show where enemy factions would be located if their systems were known.
I would like to see a hard point system that would in fact allow you to dock an entity and then share stats with it based on what it is docked to. However, then there is a serious balance issue with the stats of the newly docked entity.
