      I certainly agree with this sentiment. When I want to design a new ship, I retreat to single player creative mode where I don't have to worry about resource limitations. Luckily, everyone I play with is on a shared chat program, so it's not quite so bad, but it's not multiplayer.

      Rest space is very important. I've seen ships that are so busy that you lose the sense of shape, proportion, or purpose.

      No, the number of asteroids remains the same. I don't know that the individual rocks within each group are spread out (never paid much attention,) but obviously the groups are farther apart.

      Weapons do have tiers, and you kind of danced around it in your suggested solution. The basic tier is just the standard weapon. Second tier slaves a second weapon to the first, and the third tier slaves an effects computer. Fourth tier adds a color. Pew pew!
