I'd like to point out that when the crew and quarters update comes out (this is listed as being officially 'in development'), there will be little distinction between RP and PvP ships. There will simply be ships designed after the update which will effectively combine the two, and those designed...

      Skeletoning ships?

How I build a ship depends to a large degree on how large it is and if it will make use of medium to large turrets. My turrets are nested ball turrets, which take up a lot of room inside the ship. They look deceptively small on the outside, but pack a huge wallop compared to similarly sized...

What do you put inside your space stations?

Oh gods, those damn power cubes again. Is there anything we can do to rid the community of those bloody things? It seems every newcomer stumbles upon something to do with power cubes and thinks they are some sort of efficient way of generating power. Over and over again I see people with those...

How much would the MSI Radeon RX 480 4GB impact my game performance?

Games have to be written specifically so as to be VR compatible. Starmade 'could' be in theory, but I have no idea how much extra work it would be. I am quite certain that if you play Starmade with a VR headset, you will see 2D, not 3D, assuming you see anything at all.

Love the additions. How about categories for drones and torpedoes and the carriers that launch them?

How much would the MSI Radeon RX 480 4GB impact my game performance?

Well, I can understand why you would say this, but it is not entirely true. I too a year ago was playing Starmade on a seriously substandard computer. (I was running it with a GeForce 210.) I too would have my framerate slow to a crawl if I got too near a planet. I too lived in fear of a large...

What do you put inside your space stations?

For their visual footprint, a turret six blocks tall and 23 wide, I suppose they do. Technically I would consider these to be on the small side of medium turrets, doing about 40K dps each. I'll often have two or three different weapon systems built using the same blueprinted empty turret. They...

What do you put inside your space stations?

Let's see... When I build a 'space station' it's primarily a homebase for my faction of one. I need it as a place to dock to to keep my ship(s) safe when I'm away and to be a secure place where I can do factory work and build. First order of business is an enclosure in which I have the...

      Building a jump interdiction drone

They drain your own drives too. Not sure if that is the intended effect, but there you go.

      How to avoid server lag?

As I reported in the thread: 'Building a jump interdiction drone', I ultimately decided to install a simple bit of logic into each drone so as to activate a small jump inhibition field. It consists of a two block clock to activate a sensor, the activation module of which is attached to a Not so...

      Building a jump interdiction drone

I can't believe I've spent twelve hours dicking around with this and have now arrived at what is probably the simplest solution. It turns out that a single jump inhibitor module will give about 10,000 points of jump drain effect (just how much that really is, I haven't a clue). To simply double...

      Building a jump interdiction drone

I have just wasted many hours working on what was intended to be a ship designed to put serious hurt onto jump drives, with a massive amount of jump interdictors. Sadly it did not occur to me until half way through to ask what the range was of jump interdictors. It turns out that you have to be...

      Crew controls (help please)

There is a massive crew update being worked on that will make all sort of things with crew not just doable, but very cool. Sadly, until then, it is best to ignore having crew about. Make space for them, sure, as a ship feels more real if you do and there will come a time when you'll need the...

      How to avoid server lag?

1 clock per ship, though each ship 'is' using 50 activation modules to detect the shields at the 98% point. They are relatively strong shields for the ship size, and I don't expect many of them to drop particularly fast, so I wanted them to be sensitive. I do think though that detecting a power...

      How to avoid server lag?

Does anyone have any advise on how to create a minimum server load method of AI controlled ships activating a jump inhibitor when in combat? Right now I have each of these drones with a 75K power inhibition system that is activated if the shields go below 98%. This is 100 clocks constantly...

      How to avoid server lag?

Is there an admin command to despawn a sector? Some way to with one command rid the server of this pestilence? I am hoping that my being chummy with the admin and proactive with dealing with this, that he'll be willing to just delete this bunch and then 'maybe' (pretty please) spawn in 80...

      How to avoid server lag?

So, total docked entities is the problem? Do you think if there were substantially less docked entities, that there would be substantially less lag? How much less lag? How few PD need I put on them in order to ensure that the server can survive such a mass? I cannot imagine myself giving them...

      How to avoid server lag?

Well, I had an interesting and perhaps educational moment. I mentioned to my server admin that I wanted to boost my drone fleet to 80 vessels (still just over 5K each). He gave me his blessings and said if nothing else, it would make for interesting data for the developers. This was however...
