Is Starmade going to be a Survival or RTS style of game?

Frankly I think Starmade has far less semblance to RTS than it does to 4X. I see the ultimate evolution of Starmade being that of a 4X game with survival and RTS elements to it.

What are reasonable and enforceable limits to reduce lag in multiplayer?

So, very tentatively, what I am thinking based upon what others have said, and attempting to err in the direction of freedom (always the direction one should err towards)... These 'might' be the rules: * These rules exist to preserve the viability of the server. They are not simply...

      StarMade Dev Update: NPC Factions

What I find rather frustrating is the fact that NPC ships are complete pushovers, utterly feeble and no threat whatsoever to someone flying anything properly combat oriented, or even half way reasonably defended. In the fleet submissions, they actually 'asked' people to 'not' make them tough...

Pretty but effective turrets. Discussion of a solution.

The above pictured ship does in fact use spherical turrets (normally called ball turrets). A good 60% of their weapon mass is under the hull. Check out my thread; "How to build ball turrets." That ship believe it or not, is not actually a warship, but a planet busting super miner with it's...

What are reasonable and enforceable limits to reduce lag in multiplayer?

Thanks Batavium for the involved reply. I actually enjoy building within a rules set, as long as those rules are actually enforced. Building without limits is simply an exercise in who has more time and patience for mining and who is willing to live with the worst and most lag inducing newb...

Pretty but effective turrets. Discussion of a solution.

The turrets on this ship are exceedingly effective. Larger turrets would not make them 'more' effective. They already can break armor like it isn't there.

      Sexy Turret Competition

Alright, here's another turret that doesn't stand a prayer of winning as a 'sexy' turret, the Little Big Gun. This was built in response to people complaining that small ships cannot have effective turrets. I beg to differ. This turret measures 20x15x8. It requires no hole in a deck and no...

      Little Big Gun 1.0

Don't let the pictures fool you, this is a tiny turret, less than 100 mass. Despite this, it packs a serious punch, has good range and is self powered. It fires a double shot every four seconds, each doing 6000 damage. That is enough to obliterate an advanced armor block with full bonus armor...

What are reasonable and enforceable limits to reduce lag in multiplayer?

So I've been noticing more and more lag of late as people are building bigger ships, bigger fleets, etc.. I am guilty of some of this myself. Our server does not have any posted limits and many are availing themselves of that freedom. Sadly the game is not really built for such excess, and until...

Pretty but effective turrets. Discussion of a solution.

You are proposing a MASSIVE change in some of the fundamental mechanics that have been playtested to death. This to address a problem that frankly, I do not believe exists. Introducing new weapons now, or changing the stats of old ones so as to break all previous builds, is simply impractical...

Please make copy/paste/template remember "make output"

I recently had need to either move my core in a ship build, or cut/paste my whole ship to a new placement. Moving cores is still impossible, cutting and pasting the whole thing, one piece at a time was the only option. However the ship I was building was a very complicated salvage array, one...

      strange beam behavior

In other words, beams are completely gimped, so bugged that they are completely useless. This bug has existed for a full year and is apparently of utterly no concern. Really quite amazing.

      Sexy Turret Competition

On a ship with so little power to begin with, I believe it is a huge error to go with overdrive. You should instead use punch and build to use the power that would use. You will wind up ultimately doing twice as much damage, though of course your turrets will be either bigger or more numerous...

      Sexy Turret Competition

Cannon/beam can be quite effective and can put a very solid punch into a very small turret. That said, the DPS is entirely dependent upon the number of weapon modules. 100 modules of cannon will have exactly the same DPS as 100 modules of anything else. 100 modules of cannon/cannon will have...

      Sexy Turret Competition

You have one of two possible problems. Either the weapon system you are building is so power demanding, that it uses more than your ships power regeneration is capable of. This could be the case if you built a large overdrive weapon. Or... The other possibility is that you have some power...

Bugged turret using too much power?

???! I have built cannon/cannon turrets many, many times where the weapon's power needs exceed the generation capacity of the barrel section and/or the base. I have never encountered this issue before. All those other cannon/cannon turrets fire just fine. And if this is in fact true, if I have...

Bugged turret using too much power?

I am normally very good at building perfectly functional turrets. I do not have issues with alignment, computer facing, etc.. I normally am also able to understand and build for things like power and power inheritance. However the latest turret I have been working on has a most strange issue. It...

      Incentives to Expansion (Anti-Turtling)

I wouldn't call the 24 main offensive turrets on this thing 'small'. Technically their blueprint names refer to them as 'medium'. If they were bigger in fact, they would occlude each other's firing arcs. As it is, they can 'all' bear on a target to it's fore, and if they uncork, will together...

      Incentives to Expansion (Anti-Turtling)

When something resembles more a shoe box than a ship, it's a newbie brick. When any effort made to give it the slightest shred of non-rectangle shape is unwedged grey armor, it's a newbie brick. When such a ship's weapon systems appear to be utterly uninspired other than pile on more bricks...
