I'll go ahead and post a quick suggestion for un-rendered battles then:
Reduce every ship's attack and defense to two values: Optimal and Sub-Optimal.
Which of these the ship uses in an attack is a function of its turn-rate, acceleration, and a random number.
give every ship an attack...
I like this idea. It does not change the game in a fundamental way, beyond when a new galaxy is generated. It would not take much work to implement, and could add real depth to the game.
Two things that I think should go without saying (but I am going to say them anyhow) follow.
1. Fewer...
Also, does anyone have an old blueprint for the original VFW Dirge, or any of Mr Vec's other works? the only one on the sight is is (in my opinion less attractive) refit.
I am not saying make a station in any way superior. What I am saying is that hypothetical motherships be given both good and bad points to distinguish them from other ships. By your idea, no player should ever want to enter combat in anything BUT a mothership. You have given these mobile...
The proposed purpose of these changes is for game balance. I had a big long rant, but I deleted it. Station style systems are a large benefit to a ship. They should also provide a determent in order to balance them, and make it a choice whether to install them.
I would prefer a couple of changes to your idea:
The first is that all "station" components, when installed on the ship, should have a negative effect to the ship. My best suggestion would be to give them a much MUCH higher "mass" number than other blocks, meaning that a capital ship would not...
let's throw in some lego-style body parts blocks too...
You can have three (two?) of them in a cryo tube to represent frozen crew, or you can have them lying on the ground in groups (or alone?) to represent dead guys.
I think they could be reduced to a single module, with a directional input like other weapons. Point the CPU up, and get nudged up. Point the CPU forward, and get nudged forward etc.
*disclaimer* I am not an experienced titan builder. I have never finished a ship over 1000 meters long. I build for RP, not for hugeness.
I just want to throw in an opinion on the side of complicated logic systems. I feel that titan scale weapons systems should focus around warhead blocks...
The config files allow for NEARLY full control over all settings. Last I checked there were issues with beams doing damage per tick vs damage per second. While you CAN impose effectiveness curves (1 block does 1 damage, 5 blocks do 4 damage, 10 blocks do 7 damage sort of thing) or set a flat...
This already exists! Server operators can alter the server-side "Block config" and "Block Behavior config" files.
These are not easy to use, but by no means impossible. Server owners can alter not only the performance of individual weapons, but weapons combinations as well.
Someday, in the...
You might make the turrets more a part of the overall ship... they kind of look like they are just sitting there.
As to logic tutorials, check these out...
he has a whole series!
another cool effect that is totally reasonable looking is recessed lighting. Have the crystals themselves (not necessarily ice crystals) be out of view behind hull sections, leaving only the light they cast visible on the hull.
For power lines, you can always try using lines of light sticks...
