      True, but you are only looking at one side. With mass as the only metric you are just as likely to get attacked by a cargo vessel as you are a warship. How many times have you forgot to set a blueprint as non-pirate and been attacked by an elevator? Or a door hatch?

      A 500 mass cargo transport has significantly less combat ability then a 500 mass warship, especially since half of the mass is in the cargo. Mass is not a very good metric by itself.       I think power cost and production speed bonuses make much more sense then resource bonuses. If you have to have resource bonuses it should be capped at something like 5%. The code which determines the 'difficulty' of any ship (including yours) is only a placeholder, and drastically incorrect 90% of the time.       Are you using logic to activate the beams? T774 If so, you should pass on your findings. I don't think docking was considered and this new info may narrow down the source.
