most "semi-medium ships" are bigger than the default planets anyways you could be in the core of the planet and still have the nose of your ship sticking out of the atmosphere so even if you did get close enough to the planet for your ship to be effected by gravity your bullets still wouldn't be lol
Then you do what eve does..... a corporation is the base form you make a corp you have your members you make the rules you set the tax etc you don't need to make an alliance but you can it would be the same way here you have the base level faction a faction can do everything a faction can do now...
