      Their range is dependent on the sector size for that server. If you have a sector size of 5,000m or 10,000m for example, they can get you from well out of sight. I can't say I've been hit by them while I've had my radar jammer going, but they do fire and miss.

      The best way for a ship is to connect the doors to an activator block sitting under the dock module. When you undock, the hanger doors open. Dock, and the hanger doors close. I have this at my station if you want to come see. ***EDIT. I left a demo of the dock with auto door at your station.

      After you die, you can press F1 to see the old messages and find out what it was that killed you. The most common one I've seen lately is the turrets on the alpha pirate station. They have a big range, and a nasty bite.

      This is a depreciated block (removed from the game). The only places I've found it lately are in pirate loot drops. You might need to spawn the ship in singleplayer mode with admin commands. Edit out these blocks for something else and re-save the blueprint.

      There's some video tutorials on youtube which show how to make basic open/close doors from area and step on triggers and hanger doors connected to the dock module inside the hanger, and there's one that shows how to make animated doors (these are pretty cool).
