Actually cube ships weren't efficient they were just much easier and quicker to make. A cylinder that can sit inside the same dimensions of a cube would be more efficient and the most efficient shape was the sphere.
It looks like you chain docked your fixed turret so may be an issue with the orientation of the ship itself. The bobby ai will only fire if an enemy enters its field of vision.
It would probably be better to launch a drone from the main ship out the trigger area from the drone rack itself than a core deeper into the main ship. It's possible to do because docking areas are currently allowed to overlap and as long as the docked objects themselves don't collide or overlap...
A less troll way is to set your server up like feudal Japan. The locations of Faction Homebase is public knowledge so :

100% EMP gives efficiency boost not as strong as ion though. only damages power not shields or block. Given your small test block size its possible power regen exceeds your EMP power drain.
You are forgetting that the hp values of most blocks were changed. The hp of weapon and vital systems was reduced to around 25 to 15 maybe 10 hp.
400 dmg in one weapon hit could destroy 2-3 system blocks even while leaving Hardened Hull intact. A good range for weapon construction would have...

I made something similar using the pulse switch Bench showed and connecting a clock somewhere ( only gave 1/2 second delay block worth of flash) however starmade is acting up so I cant give you an exact answer
For me sector size is more of a comfort thing. You want space to be empty and with ftl crossing big distances become easier, but if its too empty it becomes boring or annoying to use thrusters.
I also believe it should at least save some time to use jump-drives instead of thrusters and...
