Will update the OP with images and a new video soon(tm). I was going to work on a few designs with jath, but he was busy with "The Drama" when we were supposed to do a collaboration. You've all been very patient and providing fantastic feedback, so I thank you all for that.
And so I decree, when looking at the docking ring from outside the ship: rail dockers on left, rail basic on right. Or rail rotaters if that's your thing.
I reckon that Sven_The_Slayer has hit the nail on the head with his design, I was thinking of changing it to precisely that. It's pretty much USD type 1.5. Rail Docker on the left of the ring, rail basic on the right (looking at the ring from outside the ship), down at the bottom of the ring...
jath and I will be looking to collaborate some time within the next 24 hours. I'm looking at all of your feedback, and we'll come up with a revised design. I'll try my best to consider all of your concerns. It's very likely that the position of the docker/rail will be moved downwards so the...
The problem with placing the docker and basic at the top/bottom of the collar, is that you dock your ship upside down relative to the target. There may be updates to it soon, in collaboration with jath
As long as the rail basic are facing inwards, you can mix up the left/right side for the docker and basic. It will still sit flush, but you'll just dock upside down relative to the target. It's not ideal, but it's not so big of a problem. If someone is creating a ship and using symmetry to...
You can use the new rails to create a docking collar adapter that is hidden in the hull, and extends outwards or flips down/up/around. You can have an extendable docking arm using the rails, that hides behind a bit of hull (also on rails). You can carry an adapter ship on your larger ships, that...
The collar itself does not need to be directly next to the airlock, that's the great thing about it. You can create a bottleneck for a slightly larger airlock system down into the USD size, or have your larger ships carry an adapter for it.
I'm gonna pull the whole "It's early access, still in alpha/beta" bullsh*t excuse. There have been times when I've been thoroughly annoyed that a build I've spent a long time on becomes unusable or redundant because of a new update.
That being said, I fully acknowledge any change such as old...
For one thing, the functionality of cores is being phased out. Ship cores will eventually be nothing more than a block you place to start a ship (similar to the block placed to start a station).
Secondly, and I can't speak for Schine on this but I can make assumptions,it appears Schine is...
Your proposition is a return to the old docking system. The old docking system is limited and somewhat inelegant. The new rail system allows for creativity and elegant solutions todocking problems. That's also why there was the suggestion for the USD, but aside from that there are many ways to...
Simply as the name suggests, make Rail Docker blocks able to dock to Rail Docker blocks.
This would make the USD type 1 design truly universal, and would improve the universatility of other docking collar designs.
It doesn't matter so much if the Rail Docker blocks are more expensive as a...
I thought I would explain some of the reasoning as to why I thought having Liquid Nebula as sector types instead of a system type. First things first, I took a fair amount of creative license with the term "Liquid Nebula". Real life nebula can be very big, and are defined as 'interstellar...
I agree that small sectors would make the small size of the nebula somewhat lacking. I suppose that's just something people would have to deal with if they decide that small sector size is what they want. I think a 5k sector size would be sufficient, which could give a 3k (500m shallow x2, 750m...
