I think the "too big" concept become relevant only in multiplayer. I know of several servers that'll limit you to one titan and I think Mushroom Fleet has a 600m length limit (or had).
GrandMoffTarkin While you do post some good points, I think there's a problem in that I doubt Incap would accept a reprimand, and seems like his posts indicate they want him hunted down by the DFN as an enemy.

Pretty sure that'll change with the faction update, since it is asked for quite a bit. Until then, I guess try and find people you trust? There's factions out there that seem to have things under control, such as DFN, Vaygr and the Void Templar. Might want ask them how they do it.

I think under the current build, if I were to build a turret, I would turn the range as tiny as possible. Turrets were modified to not shoot at targets they couldn't hit and the small range might prevent self-turret damage unless you were boarded.
