I want the weapons to work more like the scanner system. The scanner draws power until it is charged. The amount of power that is used is proportional to the size of the scanner. Weapons could use a very similar system. The amount of recharge would be proportional to the size of the weapon...
Your entire ship would not be useless. Just a portion of your power would be redirected to the weapon until it could recharge. If your alpha strike weapon were too big the ship could be crippled. The weapons systems would require the same about of power to fire. weapons blocks would all draw...
Why not just remove power capacity and have weapons draw power as they charge?
Small ships or turrets could use high damage weapons

I like this idea. This would also make it somewhat dangerous to fire a large missile at the beginning of a battle as you would lose a lot of your power recharge and could cripple a ship if it was too powerful.

My mining ships usually have 50000 salvage blocks. 100 blocks for each output for a total of 500 outputs. I mine asteroids and occasionally I will buy a derelict station for the armor blocks. Since the asteroid update I have not bothered with planet mining.

This might be achievable with a single block weapon output that the AI uses to aim and a multi output weapon attached to a logic clock and wireless logic.
The logic weapon will fire unfocused.
In the main menu go to tools/mods then catalog manager from there you will have to export your bp. The sment will then be in the export file in blueprints.

In adv build mode you can select the old docking block (Bottom right corner) so you only delete that block.
Then you can just make a very large box with the build sliders and start deleting.

Here are 7 small AMS turrets docked to a ship, so you can cut and paste the turret socket if you wish to use them.
All of the turrets are single output cannon cannon.

If docked hull was not viable this would be a great step toward making the game more playable.
Maybe if the rails were shot the docked entities could overheat and if they were not rebooted they would simply disappear like other overheating entities.
Whichever direction the computer controlling the missiles faces is the direction the missles will fire. This works well for swarmers and lock on missiles.
Also you can select which missle block will fire the missles.
