Well you can be a fighter pilot in my Legions of Death then. 'Hanks for giving me a free defender. I like the game to be balanced though, and there be an exuse to expand the Glorious Mining Swarm and grind those pesky alternate factions to block chunks.
If you want to say an idea that's barely thought out, make sure you check that someone hasn't said the same thing in more detail earlier first.
1. The collection block collects fuel, but what does the production module do? Is it a factory enhanncer for fuel?
2. Why... not? I guess it could be...
Point to you. Hopefully either fuel will be such an easy thing that you wouldn't need to much work to do it(say it just takes from storage containers on the ship that are slaved to the core). And hopefully fuel will be an easy enough thing to get in the small quantities that you would need...
Most of the issues with this system so far have been because it's too much of a hassle to ever move big ships.
I think what you mean is that it would require 1 Fuel for every 100 seconds for each power block(or something). If you produce 500 power per PB(in a given ship) then you consume 1 F...
But this gives you free blocks, transfiguring composite into blocks with capsules and mesh. And this turns it into more of a consumeable that you activate and then need to re-arm.
First clarify; so astrotech would refill all of armor and health pools of the ship with missing blocks included...
But then there's no reason to have them! How many times do you get into and out of fights where the majority of your blocks are damaged but not destroied? The scale of starmade means that most shots will completely destroy blocks instead of damaging them.
You could make them really slow, or...
A Universe with finite Power?
Wouldn't this be cool? Make rechargers cost like 1k mesh, increased mass, and increased generation. Only viable on stations or something, so people need a homebase or lots of drop pods.
How would it know what blocks to replace first?
Btw, I have a C/P for this. It comes up every once and a while:
What if astrotech beams worked like salvage beams in reverse(smaeb egavlas). As in, they shot through the target until they hit a missing block, then they would, if they had it in...
I've heard of disasterous stories of ships that have just enough regen/cap for min passive and weaponfire, that get blown away by EMP folks that mess up their min-maxer. It works already. This would make it more effective.
How would you deal with titans? I can imagine multi-kilometer long and million-metric ton carriers would have a decent effect on surrounding space. How would you calculate what everything fell towards.
Gonna make a first suggestion-
Evadable missiles.
If possible reduce tracking and slow speed so it's just possible to dodge missiles slightly, eventually they would catch you but with the right T2M ratio and some skill n luck you could avoid the first pass, and maybe the second before they get...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ If you watch the Expanse series then your ships are more ugly, greebling seems a good midpoint for asthetics, effort, and functionality.
Idk how to do small ships. I just wanted to make a skin around ships more important.
It must have greebling. Besides, if armor is buffed, and if shields are maybe nerfed a bit, then armor is a necessity.
For this reason, I wish that stations could have separate mass limits so they could hold and power large enough shipyards.
So what you mean is to have decorative blocks be superlightweight and have 5 shield cap each? Wouldn't this need to make an entire new set of hull blocks? Thats my only problem with it. And cost. Would these by proportionally cheap too?
Yea,,. I really like the changes ideas, go with it. Maybe buff power aux max passive storage cap so they can be used in better sizes.
This is split between 2-4 ships anyway, so that cap is close to yours already
