StarMade v0.19282: Putting more fun into battles. Also, boarding!

Well, this all sounds very exciting again. Although I'm more a survivalist then a battleship captain there are a lot of interesting refinements in here. Personally I like the differentiation in block masses and the new system for calculating damage to ships. All in all, a lot to learn in this...

      Realism

Hmm, this really depends on the type of game. For some games, like Skyrim for instance, I like the Bethesda ultra realistic approach, for others, like StarMade, a little dependency on your imagination is what's expected and doesn't harm the immersion at all. Oh dear, it seems I've been looking...

Well, Oracle and Micro$oft aren't two heads on one pillow, to state their relationship most mildly. :D Greets, Jan

Good to hear, it's always these kind of little refinements that make the difference between a good thing and a great. :D Greets, Jan

Some people seem to be able to make more from those screen shots then I can, but for what it's worth I like the color scheme. Since the new launcher will be dependent more on an available Internet connection I hope, if there isn't one for any reason, that such a mishap will be handled...

      Curious Fuel Survey

Well, that's one approach, personally I would differentiate in power by refueled source. Lava for civilian use, solar particles - I said rays, but particles better formulates what I meant - for higher speed like exploring purposes and black matter for military ships with less volume for the same...

      Curious Fuel Survey

Hmm, not that I'm against some kind of travel limit with a certain amount of power resource what one could call fuel, I'm just a little reluctant that this could bring in what I would call the KSP effect. ;) People will become overly involved in calculating what's needed to get where they want...

A little late, but still happy birthday wishes nevertheless. ;) I hope by now you already overcame yesterdays festivities. :p Greets, Jan

It's an interesting list of things / features planned, or in the pipeline, very informative. The ones that speak the most to my imagination though are definitely flora and fauna, those could and would make (single player) game-play much more versatile. ;) Incentives to go exploring is one of...

      Is Starmade ready for Steam?

I'm no Steam fan either, but sometimes it's unavoidable. I remember it started some eight or nine years ago when computer games were still widely available in shops over here and when you came home with a new DVD you bought all of a sudden it needed Steam to be activated. I remember that...

      Is Starmade ready for Steam?

Hmm, lets start to say Unity isn't bullshit, but creating games is a lot more involved then many aspiring game creators using Unity seem to think. ;) When you remember that many full blown games are made by a team comparable with a reasonable sized film crew, including the enormous costs of at...

      Survival or creative?

Check the second paragraph after the video, the upcoming introduction of fauna is mentioned there. I've read more about it and how it's supposed to be made versatile without having to create every one creature separately, but sadly I can't remember where. Could be it was in a previous blog, but...

      Survival or creative?

Well, at the moment the only survival aspect is the gathering of resources to start making bigger and better ships. Like most others I start with a base on a planet and build up from there. Obviously at the moment there are not many perils in this way of starting, only occasional pirate raids if...

Always very interesting to read about and look at the design decisions that were made behind the scenes. Also the hint of fauna coming to life in the not so distant future is very promising. Nice one guys. Greets, Jan

      moving the ship core

That would be very interesting, personally I don't really need an option to alter the core placement, that's a question of planning beforehand, but to envision difficult hull and other connections, or experimenting with the flow of a large surface, an external editor would be very handy indeed...

This normal now for planet atmosphere?

It's probably the same alpha channel problem as that one doesn't see weapon fire trails when placing a camera block behind transparent blocks. ;) Greets, Jan

This normal now for planet atmosphere?

Hmm, could this situation arise when using Tab-F6 to force a refresh of the environment too? I had the same today, my base was a hole in the planet ground, but for the rest all looked well, Tab-F6 brought it back including those pesky black spots... Greets, Jan

Black Widow Scout - planetary recon spider ship

Very interesting, certainly a good example what can be done now, speaking as a notorious planet hopper myself. ;) As soon as I'll have the time I will check this one out, thanks for sharing. Greets, Jan

This normal now for planet atmosphere?

When I loaded the game later today all in the image above showed normal again, so I presume that strange blackness was a side effect of using Tab-F6 to force my base to spawn since it was initially an empty hole when I arrived back at it. ;) Greets, Jan

This normal now for planet atmosphere?

Hmm, this seems dependent on the graphics card as well. No white skies here, but strange black spots also to be seen from space above the planet in orbit. (game shadow setting off and 'sun' straight above not obscured v. 0.19228) Could it be the Langoliers... :D Greets, Jan
