I don't really feel like beams are the big problem. It's really the tedium of mining. Asteroids are everywhere, especially after the new update. All you have to do is run around with your waffle array and you'll come back with a nice spread of resources. The resources themselves are easy to come...
I think it would expand game play greatly if every derelict station was like a mini dungeon. It would promote game play of simply grabbing a small exploration ship and living that Han Solo life. The only problem is you would also need to expand the options available to astronauts or dungeon...
This definitely has something to do with older Nvidia cards or at least older software beyond drivers. I upgraded to a brand new card and I haven't had the issue since.
Badmojo I'm in the same place you are. I want mining to be less tedious and boring but im not sure of any simple changes that should be made. Salvage beam cannot be removed or altered in any major way. If they were then a lot of people would not be happy.
The problem isn't really salvage beams...
I think factories should directly work with shipyards. If the shipyard computer is linked to a factory it should be able to automatically set production for that factory and start building the required parts. This would make the tedium of checking factories non existent. Also it would be nice if...
Oooohhhkay material science aside there are building reasons why one would want concrete. Warehouses, bunkers, and other hardened structures would make a lot of sense on planets. Beyond that all structural materials could be made from materials found on planet, like terrain blocks.
Anyway...
How were you thinking this could work? I'm assuming you'd type in password to send an activation signal. Maybe it should be more of a combination thing so people don't have to remember whole passwords.
I do like tiled blocks but I wish I didn't have to decide between lighter weight and looking better. I wish we had better options all around, but if we got some blocks that work well for buildings it would help greatly.
I think that is a big issue right now, seamless blocks. Right now a lot of my ship use standard armor for one reason alone, it's seamless. I hate how basic hull looks on the outside of ship in making a smooth hull. The seams in many blocks make the game look even blockier.
I'm actually working...
I use a lot of white on some of my ships so I need sunglasses for these shaders. Prefer starmade without such a large brightness contrast. In the dark its impossible to see and with a light on I'm blinded.
The beams look pretty cool though. Colored lights look good too, but anything in white...
I think part of the problem is how people want combat to play out. Most of us seem to come from many different games with many different backgrounds. As such there are many different ideas how ship to ship combat should play out. Some of us want to command a huge titan into battle that is going...
Little ship battles are really long and drawn out while big ships knock each other out very quickly. I think the problem is the way systems scale with size. Making a small change like not allowing missile+damage beam+ ion won't do much.
I'm slowly putting together a custom block pack that would add some of these. I'd love to hear what kinds of block people would want though. I feel if certain blocks become widely used in custom packs, they will eventually be integrated into the game.
i really like the idea of a hologram. If you held out your assembler and a 2d hologram showed the current block, that would be pretty cool. the only problem is that all the items don't have models so that would need to be done too.
I have an ejection seat in my fighters that just have a jump drive on a logic pulse. Whenever I undock immediately warp away. I also put a radarjammer, power, and a thrust block. In total it is only usually 7-8 blocks.
I wouldn't expect schine to give us something like the SDF-1's shields, but it would be cool to link logic to concentrate the shields in a specific area. That's pretty much what I do with forcefields. It allows me to put a wall between my ship and a missile lol.
