I don't recall there ever being an "easy" button for servers. I've always had to launch the dedicated server shell script, kill it, tweak some things in the server's .CFG file, and then launch the shell script again.
Modern first-person shooters can very quickly stream a huge amount of level geometry into video RAM and still run at a nice 60 fps while looking much better than StarMade. Can StarMade be optimized to the point that titans cause no lag? I don't know, but based on what other games are doing...
I like the direction this is going. Factions will prefer to fight over high-value systems. Though your bases in low-value systems aren't necessarily well-protected, there's little point in attacking them so they'll actually be safely left alone most of the time.
Same here. Any grand vision I have at the start of a new station build is totally thrown out-the-window by the time I've placed more than a few dozen blocks.
The most important thing to do is get your faction module placed on your station, claim the system so you get mining bonuses, and mark the station as your homebase so it's invulnerable. After that I usually focus on incremental improvements between power generation, cargo storage, and factory...
I want to see improvements allowing modular design but I don't think docking as it exists now is the right way to do it. Maybe we could get a different type of docking system where upon docking the dock blocks are replaced with hull and the two entities are permanently merged into one.
So, out of all the post feedback buttons which one is closest in meaning to "This post gave me an erection"?
Maybe I missed it, but do we have any idea when we can expect some of the new textures to be released?
What about new gameplay mechanics strengthening interplay, politics, and diplomacy between factions? Some kind of Galactic Council (StarMade's United Nations) that allows factions to vote on things that affect the whole server, allowing an implementation of trade taxes and tariffs, system...
I don't like the idea of abstract gold sinks, but if there are practical maintenance costs due to usage I'm fine with that. For example, rebuilding and repairing ships after a battle. That's an existing maintenance cost, but it's very direct and not just some abstract gold cost you periodically...
I don't mind sharing, in fact I like to have separation of duties where one player manages the homebase, another player concentrates on mining, another on defense, etc. Only problem is my friends don't play often so I'm always in a one-man faction.
Sounds complicated. I'd rather see some kind of abstract "Factory Controller Block" that links to other factories and storage, and has a production queue you can configure, e.g. "1000x White Hull, 400 Power Reactors, 250 Jump Drive Modules" which it then does its best to handle automatically.
As far as FPS, I think we need to see what the developers can accomplish via optimizing the rendering and physics engines before we try out any major changes to game mechanics. Just yesterday I used the ellipsoid build helper to generate a 50-radius sphere and my FPS dropped horribly while the...
I've tried to hit on a few of these ideas lately too. My two biggest suggestions were a change in resource distribution to encourage players/factions to expand to find anything beyond the basic resources, and new game modes incentivizing conquest and combat as an alternative option to the...
It's from the old Expanded Universe material. It was a rebuilt Dreadnaught designed to be heavier and not require a billion crew.
