Billion with a B. Pulse secondaries and overdrive tertiaries on the largest weapon that you can support passively, and fire from close range without warning.

Dealing with "cloaked alpha OP" fears for the coming meta...

The issue isn't so much that stealth is easy per se; the issue is that stealth combines with the way the new weapons work to make one-shot kills easy, because you only need just enough power to run your chambers and keep a giant weapon topped off enough to fire one time. Opponent ships using...

Dealing with "cloaked alpha OP" fears for the coming meta...

Several people have pointed out that, with the new power system, cloaked warships with high-damage one-shot weapons could well be extremely powerful and unbalanced, since they can strike without warning with oversized weaponry and the opponent could do very little to defend against it. What can...

      Remove Thrust:Mass ratio cap...

Nah, ships should always rotate around CoM. What I meant by "consider mass distribution" is in regards to momentum and having more mass toward the ends of a ship versus having more toward the center, and how that should reflect different values for rotational inertia on designs that are laid out...

      Remove Thrust:Mass ratio cap...

I'd mentioned similar thoughts a couple days ago, but your take on it is more detailed and explanatory. I'd like to add, though, that considering mass distribution for rotational acceleration - not simply total mass or where the CoM is located - would be a nice touch. Making thrust and...

Yet another Shotgun suggestion: seeker shots

I kinda like the idea of seeking cannon shells - since they exist in real life now - but I'd rather it be a separate thing from an improved and useful shotgun. I'd propose it to be tied to pulse secondary or something, since it currently isn't that great either.

      Thrust "Reactors"?

Uncoupling a ship's top speed from its thrust would be a big help here. The top speed for any ship, regardless of its thrust/weight ratio, should be the same unless it's upgraded with overdrive chambers. (Though I'm philosophically against any maximum top speed that isn't c, I can accept one for...

Suggestion for missile slave on beams and cannons

What was the other guidance system besides the current lock-on and heatseeker? I wonder if a TOW-like "follow the cursor" type of guidance would be popular? It might make hitting evading targets easier, and would definitely help with precision targeting, at the cost of consuming player effort...

Cubical planets are better and I can explain why

After thinking about it, I can also see the virtues of flat disc planets, if one bears in mind that they're an abstraction of what would in-universe be a far larger sphere. They offer a lot more contiguous room to build and the terrain will look right locally.

Suggestion for missile slave on beams and cannons

"DPS" and "Alpha" are a false dichotomy imported from MMORPGs and MOBAs; they're a bad way of describing more realistic combat damage models that don't rely on "hit points" because the actual results on target are what matters and not the numbers. Real ships are not arbitrarily deep volumes of a...

      DPS Advice for a newbie?

Also - overpenetration is wasted energy, and, no matter how powerful a weapon is it can only destroy the blocks that it hits.

      DPS Advice for a newbie?

That long pointy bow is just crying for some spinal weaponry. Consider, as a rough ballpark figure to just throw out there, a 500 beam/ 500 beam/ 500 ion in the center and dual 300 beam/ 300 beam/ 30 explosives on either side of it, if you can get them to fit. You could also double up on those...

      StarMade Dock: Family Friendly?

Which was exactly my point, they were arguing with YOU and not what you wrote. That's not really the point I was trying to make at all. My point is that people who don't have a personal ego investment in a discussion will tend to be more honest and straightforward.

Suggestion for missile slave on beams and cannons

If it could come out working like the bursters in SotS 1, I'd be thrilled. They were a perennial favorite of mine. I don't think a 3D volume check would need to be done every single frame, if that's what you're asking - 5 or 10 checks a second with rough bounding should make it burst in a near...

      StarMade Dock: Family Friendly?

Do you think the quality of the forum would improve if it was switched to an anonymous posting system? EG. the moderators can see who you are, and they can post with a visible name/ID, but regular users can't do either.

      New Power System/Auxillary Question

I'd wait and see if Aux power would even still be a thing with the new system, first. If your main reactor goes down, though, then making it eject when you switch to a backup could save you some mass... but those are expensive blocks.

      StarMade Dock: Family Friendly?

I have to specifically second this. Maybe there have been some incidents back before I joined the forum, but since I've been here everything's seemed civil and in good humor. There's disagreements, sure, but those happen anywhere and really shouldn't be suppressed (even if some people are...

      Control scheme alterations

I don't see why, all three variables should be commonly used already and available to the playerside client. I'd rather have a visually toggleable navball than a HUD pointer, though, as there's already a lot of different things that can create HUD pointers and it can result in serious clutter.

This is the item on your list that I really want to second a request for.

      Strange obsessions?

I strongly prefer to have a functional-looking bridge that's operable and visible from the ship core itself, and has not only a good view but an array of computers and blinkenlights to make it feel natural. I'm also a fan of more abstract, poetic/thematic names, in the vein of Iain M. Banks...
