we need to talk about losing

Thus the suggested tax, instead of permadeath. But that doesn't allow for new players, What about changing spawns so that people spawn on planets randomly across the universe? And say no closer than 5~10 star systems from another player?

we need to talk about losing

Agreed, but this still doesn't address the issue of galactic conquest. You cant conquer the galaxy if your galaxy is spotted with player factions. So we still need a solution where this kind of PvP works. A system of PvP where we don't have to screw players so badly they quit.

we need to talk about losing

This is the kind of analysis this thread is looking for. I mostly agree with your analysis. However in a game we don't need to teach the "war is harsh" lesson, this is a game after all. I do want to keep people playing rather than kicking them out if they loose. Homebase invulnerablilty does...

we need to talk about losing

You still haven't fixed the issue. This is partially about PvP because this game incorporates PvP. So maybe we need to put a defenders advantage in the game kinda like the board game RISK.

we need to talk about losing

Yes lets call these people morons. That makes this a really great community to play in.

we need to talk about losing

The point of the thread is that losing is so costly that it causes people to rage quit. If you not looking for conflict then maybe single player is for you. The point of the game is explore, expand, trade, fight, and so on. The sandbox is very big, and losing your structures causes people to...

we need to talk about losing

In some sense this is a problem. A war is a non consensual act. Which is why it is so interesting. If you only fight with people who want to then there really isn't any real conflict.

we need to talk about losing

One of the biggest issues in this game is the inability to lose. People spend hours building and designing their creations thus it feels like time lost when you lose your creations. Inevitably someone will say "but you had fun building it right?" as if to say the building is just worth the time...

Stifled building in the shadow of an impending update

I like the discussion in this thread, but honestly I think it's time for Shine to step up their game. We are indeed tired of all the things in progress and that this game has been in alpha way to long. The community is fatigued and atrophied. Servers just are not as populated anymore. Its nice...

      Starmade being overtaken?

It's amazing how many people say this game doesn't function when it isn't open to the public. What I can see from the trailer is that you build ships, logic structures, and a better environment than Starmade (planets, asteroids, stars, and a realistic galaxy). The combat looks engaging, Sure it...

      Starmade being overtaken?

I'm wondering with the plethora of voxel space sims entering the market what Starmade is doing to become competitive. I love this game but I feel like it isn't going anywhere and that other games will offer a better experience very soon. Particularly games like Empyron, Dual Universe and today...

Change power all you like, it wont help us.

I think one of the issues that has been missed here ( Though I haven't read all the threads) was the one of AI. I think one of the issues they're working on is smarter AI for better battles. With ships having many systems, that require careful balancing of the power input, power draw, and power...

      Power System Overhaul Proposal

This is by far the best post in this thread. Bravo sir. You should make this a separate thread to discuss.

      not feeling like building atm.

You mistake my meaning sir. It means that I must wait to make new ships and stations and that building anything new is moot at this point because it will be obsolete later. Knowing this is a bummer.

      not feeling like building atm.

If this could be designed and implemented in a few weeks I'd be okay with it, but this team is slow to do anything. Until there is a design plan and a clear statement of how things will work there isn't really much of a point to designing new functional ships or refurbishing old ones. You'll...

      Welcome the Change

I don't disagree, its better to fix the problem if there is one, but I don't think the proposed system solves their problems, and I think there wasn't a super clear statement of the problems. Many players I think agree on this.

      Welcome the Change

Starmade has been in development for at least 5 years (according to wikipedia) likely more. While I agree that this is an alpha this game this feels like a huge step backwards from actually finishing this game. I think that most of this issues myself and other players have with the power change...

      Power System Overhaul Proposal

Please don't put words in my mouth. If you're confused I'm more than happy to explain. But the system should be as simple as it needs to be. Not a step more. The whole game set doesn't need to be simple, but it should be rewarding, adding "fun" or "strategy" as you said in the first paragraph...

      Power System Overhaul Proposal

The more I read about this the more I think it is a bad idea. There are so many issues that the game currently has that need to be fixed and features that need to be advanced. We're talking about breaking probably the most fundamental mechanic in the game. This will require extensive testing and...

      Power System Overhaul Proposal

This thread has gotten way out of control. Honestly the nature of discussing this here is really inefficient. Due to the linear nature of threads We cannot respond in time to the questions at hand.
