You're the one who wants aesthetics; I want mechanics! Big turrets are much more difficult to design a ship for; they require clearance for turning, sockets for the base limiting interior and mass enhancers to keep them moving. If you put the work into your design to get them working they're a...
And you can make small turrets now. You totally can. You can make a core, docker bobby, cannon computer and cannon block turret and it'll be as tiny as you want.
This is about mechanical complexity. You want your design to not affect your ships performance is what this boils down to. Why not go...
Except it's a dumb mechanic.
Little gun = little damage
Big gun = big damage
This is completely irrelevant; any well designed anti-hull weapon will knock either design out in seconds; difference being that large turrets require a much higher investment in hull and structure blocks that could...
When someone says "I can't build the ship I want because they're mechanically senseless and i value efficiency" and your answer is basically "I can't build those ships so they should be removed" then that isn't helping anything.
We want different things and there's a conflict of interest here...
If they look and work better without the turrets, the turrets are poorly designed. Maybe design the ship with turrets in mind from the start, instead of slapping them on later.
I like big turrets and this block will kill them. What kind of idiot would make a 2k mass turret for their ship when you can have much smaller ones achieving the same result without the added cost of mass enhancers and the complexity of a turret joint digging into your ship? If you want small...
You're never going to have an economy when everything has fixed value. Trade is based off stuff having different value to different people, why would a miner sell his ores, whats he buying he can't make himself, especially if the manufactured product requires more than he would've gotten just...
I think basic ai stuff, like priority targetting and moving closer/retreating should be kept simple and not require any complicated nonsense, but things like carrier AI kind of requires some more advanced behaviors to make fighters viable.
I had a similar idea to this but its not quite as...
Dwarf fortress has extremely few randomized outcomes; where all the random fuckery comes is in the context; you're randomly up against a huge goblin army, or a skeeting velociraptor, or you get one of your dwarves mauled by a polarbear because he wouldn't share his beer; you don't have them...
The "mop-up face" being as soon as you lose shields. You fuckers must really hate armor tanking considering all the shit you want to add to make it useless.
This!
All of these hull damage penalties just make armor worse than it allready is. Try using 5 groups of cannons each at ~5000 damage...
