Server Optimizations - provide a "server only" download option + some guidance

Hello. Well so this is a two part suggestion aimed at helping server operators. 1. This suggestion is relatively simple. It is to have a separate jar file which operates ONLY as a server. It could be run exactly as the server is now, with the same switches, except when it updates it ONLY...

      Light Vs Dark News

There were like 50 1k drones, at least 2 10k drones, a 76k warship, and a 230k+ warship. All perished to my damaged 64k battleminer. (Normally 65k, but it suffered some damage from a previous fight when attempting to take on a 270k warship from the pirate faction lead by Miroxa)

      Light vs Dark Server Redux

Yes, so long as you started recently. Nice fight! Was that a light side starter ship vs the dark side one? Yeah, but if one faction becomes too powerful, then everyone gets screwed basically. It's too easy for the balance to get way out of hand. The admins decided on a more stable...

      Light vs Dark Server Redux

Inverse faction territory points are intriguing, but the setup has a lot of problems. Non-protected bases are trivial to kill. It's too easy to just jump in, one sector away, launch a ton of missiles, jump out, rinse, repeat. If you have a few people doing this, it really is no big deal. Or...

      Light vs Dark Server Redux

There have been a ton of config edits. This is not a vanilla server. A few pertaining to PVP include: 1. Turn radius speed was increased. 2. Damage beams have the same range as cannons. This is to help with AI vessels that would normally move out of range of their own damage beam weapons if...

      Light vs Dark Server Redux

I'm unsure what the benefit would be to eliminating credits entirely, but having alternate currency helps make things interesting, I think. I finished a kiosk system that will dispense blueprints (or other goods) for bronze/silver/gold bars. We may rent kiosks out to players as well, for them...

I would definitely appreciate it. :) Thanks for the quick response!

      Block config on servers

I know this is somewhat old, but elsewhere I noticed someone said that cargo blocks caused a conflict. Perhaps they are trying to use the same ID. I'd look over the log and see what the exact error was, if I was you. Perhaps one can be changed.

      Quest creation using Lua

May I ask how you did this? I'm going to give custom NPC's a go for the Light vs Dark server and this this would actually be quite useful. I've never dabbled with Lua scripting before, but I'd like see what is possible here. For quests, if I could make http calls out, then I could replace the...

      Add admin command "/Server_Restart"

Could use a for loop, I guess, but why add the complexity? My windows script is easy to understand and only restarts the server if it ends with an errorcode of 5. It can be easily modified to restart the server if any errorcode is thrown, or to loop no matter what. What would be the benefit...

      Add admin command "/Server_Restart"

To add to my response, there are creative solutions the owners of Shattered Skies could use to enable limited access to control the server. Bear with me though, as it might look rather wonky, but it would totally work. An example would be to create an FTP server on the host machine (using...

      Add admin command "/Server_Restart"

All this sounds well and good, but what if they don't want the game to be running in a loop? What about when they want to do multiple backups and update checks? What if the server gets stuck in a crash loop? The method I use to auto-restart the game in linux is an until loop which only runs...

      Recognized /add_admin_allowed_comand

About the difference between the community and server name. Pfft, whatever, everyone knows what I mean, don't be pedantic. :p But yeah, I agree with your detailing of how permissions can be handled, also the caveats with TAB + F8. I think one solution is to provide all of this functionality...

Bug Corruption of World after update

Unfortunately, our server at Light vs Dark suffered a critical issue where our world file seems to have corrupted the next day, after the latest update. The server was updated at 3am EST 06-20-16 The server underwent a restart at 5pm successfully. At around 9:30pm the server suddenly started...

      Light vs Dark Server Redux

Already patched. The server does an auto-update every night at 5am EST. Though we did a manual update at 3am, since we didn't feel like waiting. I may script in a solution later to perform an update check every hour or something and then perform the update. So many servers do the whole...

Turret Standby Mode and Turret Switching with CTRL + Down/Up

Actually, congruency is typically used in programming or designing to mean you are using the same methodology between two parts. For example, when building a ship that two people are working on, one may say to the other to include a certain design element in the back to make it "congruent" with...

Read by Council Warheads - One more setting

Hello, well right now warheads pose a problem to offline bases because a cloaked ship can easily knock defense turrets off. Even new players can easily create a ship to do this. As a solution to this problem, but also to give options which I believe would fit in well, I suggest increasing the...
