Planets at this point are, well, tough. the sheer lag would be server killing. what you propose is like putting a ton of ship-esque structures sitting on massive glitchy plates. a good idea, just not ready any time soon, i'm afraid.
The big issue that i keep seeing with these fleet ideas is that they serve a single purpose, offence or defense. there should be mining fleets, support fleets (medical ships, repair ships, etc.), not just war fleets.
Easy to talk about, painful to implement. the game is frankly, running an average physics engine. your asking for a major upgrade, and the graphical fidelity you want just isn't in the engine. sorry.
I would call them ATBWs. (Auto Tracking Beam Weapons)

I mentioned these in another thread, but i want more imput on the basic idea: escape pod ports, male+female, auto launch when a player boards and shields are down.
That would be a graet way to sustain actual combat after losing the fleet tab. i would suggest that the ships would retreat, and (if its an AI) the enemy would track them down to your planet or mothership.
Something like this should be obvious: MINEFIELDS! I Tried to make one, but the mines had to be so densely packed that they would crash into each other and be worthless.
Transporter Psychosis is a really neat idea that i would like to see. I don't see it as an extreme nerf to transporters, i just see it as a way to facilitate and ensure balance. something tha i would find cool is a longer transport time. while you are being transported, somebody could destroy...
Not attack proof, tha would be too easy... maybe you wouldn't be able to damage the hull until you destroyed the adapter,which would need to be on the outside of the ship. then all the hulls and other materials would respond like any other. BUT! you would not be able to put shields on escape...
True. I just had a thought. What if you just got a certain amount of faction points, andin faction modules you got a new tab, Fleet Mode, which allows you to have this side of play with the original astronaut level. you lose the faction points from ship loss or player death, and you lose access...
In this current build, yes you do. but if this idea gets implememted, i would like to see something like,
Your ship is in a sector. No enemy ships or neutral ships are in the sector. you control this sector.
or
Your ship is in a sector. A pirate vessel/station is also in this sector. sector...
But think about it: Your ship is exploding all around you, you have limited options, i suggest a new block to make it easier to escape, like an escape pod block. You could have to, a male port and a female port, and you could build an escape pod. on board would be a computer, you would hit R and...
that planet-creation idea seems a bit far fetched, but something like that for asteroids makes a lot of sense. planet matter could be turned into, i dunno, maybe they just get shot out as basic terrain blocks and over time clump into a small planet or rings... something like that.
I would limit this use to within the sector, because i can imagine all those cheaters sitting on their planet overseeing massive space wars while being in no danger whatsoever.
