      Really interesting thread OP. I have only a cursory knowledge of CompSci, but I always find the technical aspects really interesting. If 4 bytes will actually be faster for the game and get rid of one of the worst problems starmade has, I'm all for it.

      As much as I think they are well worth the IDs, just for the hulls (crystal and glass included) it's around 43 IDs.       I'd like a dev response on half slabs or if any other potential shapes are planned as well. Half slabs would be a humongous addition to building and quite frankly I think taking up the amount of IDs they would is more than justified with all of their applications.

      I like the way the system is right now. As it stands if you happen to destroy a ship's recharger bank on a lucky shot, you can wipe out their ability to regenerate shields. If they were merged together again you could not do that anymore.
