This is true what you say, but those are good ideas for later. I\'m trying to keep the amount of effort to a minimum to temporarily solve the issue, then fancy solutions like yours that do a little bit more than postponing the issue will take care of it in the future :)

You probably heard this before, but pirates are like a brick wall. Imagine being a complete noob, being obliberated by pirates several times in a row is not going to please you at all. Then again, if you disable pirates, build a huge ship, and enable them again, they are hilariously weak, but...
