      Cloaking, an Anthology

Yes, any ship. It's already not possible to create a ship that's good at every role. The game won't allow extreme shielding, weapon power, manoeuvrability *and* balanced power output at the same time. Adding cloaking just gives you one more thing to balance. As nightrune suggested, if having...

      Cloaking, an Anthology

I like the idea. It works well for fluff reasons too. Systems would presumably give out all kinds of radiation which a solid lump of metal presumably will not.

      AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!Space Engeneers have better planets!

Can't blow something big up without even bigger consequences. Gotcha ;)

      AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!Space Engeneers have better planets!

Empty infinite voids might be full of endless fun but, sometimes, it's nice to take a breather ;) I'd say the crashing was a game-related technical issue which should try to be addressed. What if I want to blow a planet up Deathstar-style? I'd like to have the option without taking the whole...

      Cloaking, an Anthology

I see. At the moment, you have no decent visual indicator of whether you are cloaked or not. So, yeah, I think that's a good use of the shimmer idea :-) Provided the shimmer is present even when not moving though, otherwise people will be able to get away with cloaking huge space stations with...

      AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!Space Engeneers have better planets!

Do you mean you don't like the idea of allowing automated mining (say, with a Bobby AI Turret)? Or do you mean mining from orbit with a massive Salvage array?

      Cloaking, an Anthology

Sorry! Yes, I did mean yourself  So, you mean the shimmer should just be there as a visual indicator that you're not cloaked and need more modules?

      Cloaking, an Anthology

Yeah, agree with everything apart from possibly the shimmer effect. Were you thinking the shimmer should only be visible if your ship is moving? And the more "cloak" blocks you have the more effective it is at hiding the shimmer?

How are the planets done in Space Engineers? Is it something remotely implementable in StarMade?

      Cloaking, an Anthology

I really really like the idea that more cloaking modules = shorter detection range. It has that quality of scalability which Schema finds so delicious :D OK, how's this for a compromise on the shimmer effect? When a cloaked ship is hit by any weapon, the ship remains invisible but the shield...

      Cloaking, an Anthology

The way I see it, the purpose of a cloaking device is to not be seen. If you add a shimmer effect, despite the bonus of looking cool and "Predatory", you can then be seen. If you then add on other penalties such as suffering 100% system-wide failure from getting hit by a single pistol round, I...

      What work, exactly?

StarMade v0.19498 Slabs & New Blocks

Actually. I like the idea of coming across "lost" Pilots whom the loneliness of space and exposure to cosmic rays/strange substances has turned into raging psychotic killers. A bit like the Reavers in Firefly (except without the strangely implausible ability to keep star ships running and...

      Space Hauler

Very practical and industrial looking design. I like it :-) If I may give some criticism though; perhaps vary the colour scheme a little rather than have it all the same flat grey? Maybe make the cargo pods brown or red?

Would you call breathing an aspect of RP?

I can see problems with this for the way the game runs at the moment, mainly the fact that the Player's initial spawn point is outside a Trading Guild Space station, in a vacuum. If you give the helmet a short enough oxygen reserve to make decompression during spaceflight a problem (e.g. 5...

Would you call breathing an aspect of RP?

With regards to A & B, I don't think the sole purpose of introducing atmosphere should be to justify the cosmetic appearance of something already in-game. It should e done in a way which *adds* something to the game-play. As for C, if everyone just leaves their helmet on all the time then...

Would you call breathing an aspect of RP?

I'm sure it's possible. However, no-one seems to have responded to my first question which is "why do it?". What will it add to gameplay? I'm really interested to hear what people think.

      Starmade Art Thread

:) I like the one in the distance, makes me think of a cross between a Harkonnen Flagship from the Dune movie and a Big Daddy from Bioshock. Maybe you should try building it? :)

Would you call breathing an aspect of RP?

That's not a bad idea, certainly more simple than mine. It could work using the existing gravity block mechanic. Click the Life-support block and you're "in" the atmosphere, click it again and you're out. Move too far away from the structure and you "fall" out of the atmosphere in the same way...
