'Bout time I stopped lurking and started posting on here.
Username: Kodiak
Preferred Style: Utilitarian, chunky, and functional. I mainly build with grey using black, white and red highlights.
Qualities: Simple design, Role Play, General Exterior, General Interior. I'm not the greatest builder by any means but all my ships are designed with functional interior spaces and with crew in mind.
Here's my latest build: a Corvette dubbed the Nagelring Class.
She was designed to be a multi-role workhorse. Able to transport cargo, perform salvage/mining operations, and she even packs a decent wallop with a dual RF Flak Cannon as her primary weapon backed up by a Homing Ion Missile for tearing down enemy shields, 2 Anti-fighter RF-AMC turrets and 2 additional dual homing conventional warhead Missile turrets. Packaged with Scanning and ECM/Radar jamming capabilities she can pinpoint trouble and slip by undetected even while shunting extra power into the engines with a 22% Overdrive boost, and a built-in structural integrity field can also help to mitigate damage from piercing or armor-penetrating shots that get past the armor plating. She's even fully Jump capable.
And if all that wasn't enough, she also packs a pair of hangars at the rear of the ship suitable for small shuttle-craft or even a pair of light escort fighters if you feel like it. Ship's amenities include 6 crew cabins, a conference room, laboratory, med bay, crew lounge with bar, 2 fully equipped heads, maintenance bay, office, and ship's mess, as well as a central dome/viewing well to provide some nice scenic views to the crew.
The biggest drawback are the turrets, which truth be told are my biggest weakness when building; they look like garbage, draw far too much power, and never last in a fight. Definitely in need of a redesign at some point when I get the motivation...
