    Hey all,

Click the links at the end of this message to jump to the section you need help with!

My name is Dingo, and we likely have two things in common: you're a new player, and frustrated as **** with trying to find updated info on this ******* game! (blame the sh*t-a$$ community that died six years ago *eyeroll*)

If you found this thread, it is likely because you are searching for relevant and contemporary information about Starmade. This thread is relevant to 2021 and the future.

Yes, the game is alive. Yes, the game is about to be made open source. If you have any questions/suggestions for a guide to be made/added to this thread, please send me a message.

I will regularly check this thread and update the list of information below. Examples of how this thread should work are provided below.

How do I jump to [x, y, z]? What changed?

How to build a ship (without having to watch a bullsh*t 40 minute youtube video)

How the **** do I use a blueprint??

What's wrong with my (mining) fleets? They aren't working!

    How to jump to [X, Y, Z]

As of some unknown time that nobody cares about, the jump drive was rolled into the ship core. So, here we go, step by step (for the PC):

You MUST be operating the SHIP CORE for this to work (reminder contained within):

    1. Hold tab to open the rotational menu, and then select galaxy map
    2. Find and double-click the sector you wish to travel to.
    3. Click "plot path" in the information section at the bottom of the screen.
    4. Exit Galaxy Map.
    5. Charge jump drive (you must be operating the SHIP CORE, otherwise you won't see the "Ship" option")
-----5a. If you have never used jump drive: Hold tab to access rotational menu
    -----5b. Select "Ship"
    -----5c. Select "Reactor"
    -----5d. Select the "Functionality" tab
-----5e. LEFT CLICK AND HOLD to charge the jump drive
    -----5f. RIGHT CLICK TO ENGAGE

NOTES: You may also ADD the Jump Drive to the active hotbar (the one that only appears whilst you are PILOTING a ship core) with the standard keyboard controls 'G'. You must DRAG AND DROP the icons shown to add them to to the hotbar.

If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve this guide for total morons, or have a request for a guide because you are a total moron (jk ;) please send me a tell.

I need a comprehensive guide to build a ship (i.e. How the **** do I start playing this ******* game?!)

Your best bet is to download a blueprint from this website, yes that's right, starmadedock.net, and reverse engineer the damn thing. There are plenty of convoluted BS tutorials all over the web by dumber-than-thou mother****ers, and let ME tell YOU, you don't wanna wade through that sh*t.

    1. Find a ship blueprint under COMMUNITY CONTENT that you like/is relevant to your need.
    2. Download it.
    3. In the main menu of Starmade, click "Catalog", then "Import", and navigate to the file (Starmade can READ THROUGH ZIP FILES, no need to extract, etc)
    4. Import your new file (extension is ".sment")
    5. Restart Starmade (not required on all machines)
    6. Enter game.
    7. Open Catalog (many ways to do this, but hold tab if you don't know)
    8. If the blueprint isn't listed under "BLUEPRINTS" click the "ADMIN" tab and then "buy"/add the blueprint from here.

    9. Now that you've done ALL of that, build the ship (scroll down on how to build a blueprint), use the ship core with the "R" key, and then press "Z" to enter (and exit) build mode, and start learning. Alternatively, you could build the ship and just start tearing it apart brick-by-brick in astronaut mode. It's up to you, depending on how frustrated and angry you are at how little information there is available to learn how to play this game.

If your file is not showing, it isn't in the right location, or you need to restart Starmade.

If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve this guide for total morons, or have a request for a guide because you are a total moron (jk ;) please send me a tell.

How the **** do I use a blueprint??

I know, it's unintuitive as ****, and was likely written by a sycophant with Asperger's, but worry not! Your frustration ends here.

    1. Whilst in the inventory tab (so that you have your mouse cursor), right-click the blueprint and click "Info".
    2. Make note of what is needed for the blueprint. Travel to a shop, go mine, whatever, I dgaf how you get the materials, but GET 'EM.
    3. Whilst in the "Info" screen of the blueprint, click "ADD ALL" (don't use the individual add, it's stupid and requires you to input values, totally convoluted)
    4. When you have added all necessary materials, and you re-enter the "Info" tab in the blueprint, the "Spawn" option should be highlighted.
    5. Click "Spawn".

NOTE: If you can't find your ship, press "N" on the keyboard and look through the list for your ship. Simply click it, and when the line is highlighted, exit the target list and a glowing white arrow will point you towards your new spawned ship.

If you have any questions or suggestions on how to improve this guide for total morons, or have a request for a guide because you are a total moron (jk ;) please send me a tell.

Q: My (mining-)fleets dont work what do i do?
A: Fleet AI is very limited. The only reliable commands are "move","attack","defend"and"sentry", and those reset too after unloading/server restart.
Fleet mining is difficult, bc its prone to bugging out. At this point its better to fly a smaller miner yourself and have an AI carrier follow you around to drop of the mined resources at. There are ways to actually do fleet mining but its tedious and never worth the effort.

To make your mining fleet work the asteroid sector with the drones in it needs to be reloaded by the server. There are two ways to do this.
    1. Fly more then two sectors away from the asteroid sector and wait 20 seconds before returning.
    2. Log out for 20 seconds.
20 seconds is the default time for the StarMade server to unload a sector from memory. The sector will be re-loaded when you return to the area and the drones will then obey the fleet mining order. Leave the drones and carrier in the sector. I have a small jump capable shuttle on my mining carrier, that is very fast to dock/undock specifically for this purpose.
