I've been playing for 3 days now and I 'm having trouble finding consistency as to how these two things work. (Along with a few other things) Here are a few questions I have:

When I add too many Shield Capacitors and Rechargers to a ship, the integrity of the entire ship reduces dramatically as soon as I shoot it with a hand laser. What causes this?

I was fighting pirates, and they somehow destroyed some of the blocks that make up my ship despite the shields remaining intact. How?

On top of the question above, during the pirate fight it gave me messages such as "Control Systems Failing!" (Or something along those lines) and I began spiraling out of control along with my power suddenly turning unstable and at 160% usage. What would the pirates have had to destroy in order for this to happen?

I would appreciate it if y'all helped. Thanks for reading!

you may be negative integrity from the placement of your shield blocks, or maybe you just dont have the power to support them.

the machanics for those systems are broken right now. hopefully the next update will fix them.

the pirates likely shot your power stream and or heavily damaged your reactor.

Great reading for the devs ^^^^^^^
The systems coud be fine with some ironing and in-game explaination.

Ultimatly just being able to press the "Help" button on any block and getting a short tutorial on it would be amazing.

kulbolen answered most of the questions already :) though you might still take damage through intact shields even with good integrity. Its a bug and it happens quite often.

Your shields may have had negative integrity which is why your ship got damaged. But I have also had it happn that weapons just bypass shields all together. I do wonder why it hasn't been fixed.

If your shields are a weird, 'spongy' shape, then they will have negative structural integrity. If a weapon hits the shields, then the shield generators will internally explode.

If you are losing power/control, I am guessing that it is because your power streams are being hit by enemy weapons.

So do you then use squares or spheres or something? I used the fill tool but now my shields have negative integrity

i thought schema removed the power stream again?
we used to be able to fill the ships empty space with shield capacitors. but I guess, that was too easy :)
to keep positive integrity, shield blocks (capacitors and regenerators) have to be touching each other, such that they build some sort of clump, where all blocks are close together. also be careful about shield upkeep. your shield capacity know consumes shield regeneration just for the upkeep. so the generation rate - upkeep costs = actual shield regeneration. if you upkeep is higher then your regen, your shields don't charge at all.

Thanks, I will look into that. I always make sure I have positive recharge, but I was confused when my ships started imploding after one hit from an AMS turret.
