More in-game block information

Should Schine bother with the information windows and tutorials or should they stay as they are?

The game needs more and clearer information about how each block works and how you can combind certain ones with others and so on.

For a Starmade veteran who knows every little feature and detail about the game, it's blocks and how everything works, this feature would be pointless. But for beginners or casual players it's a different story.

I have played this game for a couple years and I may know most of what the game has to offer, but still have to look up certain specific things about turrets or chambers or in-game physics or whatever it may be.

An example of how to improve the descriptions of blocks can be with the cannon computer. The description of it says that it can control cannon barrels and can be customized when combining it with other weapons. But what happens when you customize it with for example a missile? Yes you can test every option yourself but you could also save time if there was bit more detail in the information window.

Also the tutorials are too few, the ones that exist are good. But when watching them all it feels like there's too little information as there should at least be one sentence of description for everything in the game that a beginner should know about to not get bored from not understanding how the game works.

Now this doesn't mean there should be a hand holding you all the time. Instead I think the best way to do it is to when starting the game for the first time have a arrow or other indication pointing toward the tutorials that shows the player that they exist, but after that the player can visit the tutorials whenever he or she feels like it without them yelling in your face.

I would still like to see the tutorial space station make a triumphant return. That had great potential. Just gotta put a delay in spawning astronauts until the station is completely spawned in. (The station was un-usable, because the tutorial astronauts would spawn, fall down in gravity, and be outside, below the station by the time it spawned in.)

I completely forgot about that station hehe, but that's a good idea.

I went with not sure. IDK if I'd rather see updated tutorials or more information and better descriptions added to the wiki. New youtube video tutorials would be nice though. I miss Bench's vids.

Also, it may be better to wait until the game is more complete.

I'm thinking about creating a thread with written/pictures newbie tutorial (rather than videos). Things like what are the common slangs and terms of starmade, how to do basic logic operations and tips on common ship building techniques and layout.

Hey, something like this would probably be well suited to having a page on the wiki as well as being posted on the docks - particularly the slang terms and stuff. I started writing a starter guide for the wiki at one point, but not sure what the current state of it is. It's been somewhat updated since 2.0.

I will make some progress on the subject on the weekend, since kids would be more busy and I would have more spare time.

chambers are definitely on the wiki. I just looked them there a few days ago. I think it just needs proper organization and linking and the old articles shut down. I started to get into it last year, but all the top level pages are owned so you have to basically petition for changes to them.

More information is needed; both in-game and on the wiki. Also, Schine needs to clarify certain subjects so they don't end up being a point of frustration for newer players.

Example: They recently said integrity is going away. What they didn't mention is that Shield integrity is still in-game and will cause your ship to self-destruct when shot by ANYTHING. There is no info in-game or on the wiki stating that low shield integrity will generate continuous damage, (even when no longer under fire) up to the point of ship destruction. In fact, the only reference made to this mechanic was by a player in a thread on the forum. This is only one of the little 'surprises' Schine has left for us.

If you think you're a pro at StarMade, that's fine; you can turn the tutorials off if you don't need them or simply decline to read the wiki, but the information needs to be there for the rest of the player-base; especially the new guys.
