Recently posted elsewhere on the forums: seemingly spherical planets hidden in Starmade's code are revealed by a glitch
    Hello,
As the owner of PlayerOne server. I find myself creating and destroying worlds all the time. In the name of SCIENCE!!!!
But I found this the other day and have looked for a reference to it on StarmadeDock and Google finding absolutely nothing.
I think this may very likely be the new planet structure. Check it out and let me know anything you know about it.

Theses pictures do not give this thing justice, I actually felt like I was on a planet.
Could this be real? Could it be a hoax? Let's look at the screenshots and see how the images line up with the clues from the last teaser. For convenience, here are the screenshots from the above quote:

First of all, what are we looking at? Are these "bent blocks?" I don't think so. Look carefully at the last screenshot. It looks like the plates have been contoured so that they look rounded without all the weirdness that would come with bent voxels. This seems to align with this comment in the teaser:
The problems of them not being round has been finally solved by using a cubic sphere representation that looks like one cube block, but, if you squint and tilt your head slightly to the left, actually kind of looks like a sphere.
Recall this gif from the teaser:

There was a bit of discussion among players whether the horizon is curved. Most finally concluded that it is a hill. If true, this could be a plate from the planets in the screenshots above.

If this is real, it's definitely been optimized... A LOT. The number of blocks is obviously enormous. Recall this comment:
These new planets are according to our benchmarks about a million times faster to load and only take a fraction of memory compared to the old ones!
There is so much to explore! As you can see, this planet will have multiple biomes. While exploring you will encounter vast deserts full of sand blocks, deep forests with lots of foliage. Colder areas with ice crystals all over the place.
The first screenshot appears to show multiple biomes, although this could just be the result of looking at the brown sides of grass blocks around the planet.

So, is it real? If not, it's a pretty skillful hoax job. Screenshots like these would be tremendously hard to fake, and would not be likely to agree with past clues about the new planets in such detail. So what do you think? Real? Fake? Genius? Underwhelming? Be sure to post any new information you find.

Wow, this is defo what I've been waiting for. I did wonder why we had that annoying radial gravity and this makes it make a lot more sense.
I hope this is how new planets are going to look, but bigger.

I can't see any kind of atmosphere. I really hope they increase the size of the atmosphere bubble to allow for at least a couple of kilometres of aerospace.

    OH MAN!

I really hope they have an extensive underground cave system. I want to explore these on foot and be rewarded for it.
They do have a cave system similar to what you would see in Minecraft. I started to take pictures of the caves, but had to go to work. Here are the screenshots I have. These are kind of dark as it was on the back side of the planet at the time. I'll try to get better ones.

Oh haha hmm jeeze. How'd that get there? I wonder what that's all about. What a strange looking planet. Would sure be interesting to see that in the game. Yup....

I'm sorry, but according to Diskworld views, this is a complete fabrication. The ball planet theory is all lies. ;-)

I mean of course I'll miss Dodecahedron Planets, but only because nostalgia. Dodecas were what was in the game when I started playing. However, I've been wanting sphere planets since I started playing. If and when they switch to spheres it will be a welcome change.

Technically, it's an icosahedron; a 20-sided polyhedron comprised of triangular faces. In any case, I am thoroughly impressed; the thing looks great.

On the other hand, while these teasers are cool, it's been almost a year and a half since the original GIF was posted. If they keep dragging ass like this, I'm going to have to take matters into my own hands.

    My alternative. Just in case...

Surely I jest; as I'm sure the coding that went into this new planet type was a royal pain in the neck and to be fair, I think I'd rather have Schine's brand of optimized planet. Their efforts are what keep me following this game but I'll be ready in case they decide to keep us all waiting. ;)

Well there goes the big reveal. At this rate you will never catch up to Nintendo in terms of hype reveals.

Do you think you can get us a size comparison pic? Like make a ship of a specific size and take a pic of it next to the planet.

Yeah, that's a good idea. Use one of the trader ships, like the B190 or the C140 as they're most familiar.
[doublepost=1544642825,1544642706][/doublepost]I was thinking, to get a decent sized planet you will need to up the size of the sectors considerably. On that note, will the new universe be using sectors in the same way or even have sectors?

Its almost certainly going to have sectors in some sense. Hopefully the way objects are distributed doesnt depend on the silly 16^3 "systems" we have now but something based around a sphere of sectors around a randomly-placed star... I'm going to keep kicking that particular horse until it either rises up from the dead or I join it, yes.
Sectors can be expanded up to 7.5-8km without rounding errors/resource usage becoming a problem, and if planets can be scaled up to even 1km diameter without killing 50% of players' computers maybe the default sector size would be raised to 3-4km, too.

The pictures posted do make wonder. Criss comment just makes it harder to let go. I definitely want to see these ingame
