block hp increase, since shields are hard to make

Despite all the down points on the game mechanics that could happen, we should have a reason to use hardened/advanced hulls, since today they are way more harder to get thanks to the new BP system.

A ship with hardened hulls today is no better then a shield with basic hulls. Either make them cheaper/easier to craft or use this HP method that was suggested.

Also, a way to make battles last longer would be very nice. It's not even fun having only 10 seconds of showdown.

If you have to make it more complicated, then your nerf didn't work.
Well, it might've 'worked' in the sense of balancing out armor vs. weapons.. Regardless, though, I don't actually support something like this; a new armor mechanic has to be implemented (aside from just an HP counter which doesn't actually help this issue) to fix this in a satisfactory way IMO.

A combination of an HP counter based on the number of armor blocks in a single group that must be depleted before blocks take damage, and functioning astrotech beams might work. Of course, we'd need another passive system to aid in hull function, to the tune of a nanite auto-repair system or something.

That's a shield, we already have shields. The point of having individual blocks that can be destroyed is the fact that individual blocks can be destroyed. Having anything other than shields stopping a block from being killed when it takes damage is pointless. I'm all for a bonus is armor gained by more armor being next to the block being hit as that makes sense but a single layer of hull 1000x1000 should not offer more protection to a single impact than one 10x10 but thicker hull will have more adjacent blocks and therefore offer more protection.

Shields regenerate and have different defense values against different weapons.

Armor HP has to be boosted again by hand.

Yeah... or maybe by a defensive effect of something, but it would have to be too slow and too power-intensive to use effectively in combat.

Because you would need to mine 4 solar systems to make 10 shields and armor isn't holding up well at all. Can we increase the block hp on systems and on hulls if we can scale it to what a 40k mass or more ship can do as far as damage and make it to where the hull can hold up on its own for 1 min or so, I think it would balance the ships and balance the game as shields are to hard to make. A small craft 60m can go through hull at any size like it's cool, that isn't right.

What if depending on how many layers of hull you have it can increase the hull hp even more. That would give armor value and worth. As many see hull as for look and not functional at all. It is laughable really.
    OMG, they did it!
Come on, shields are not expansive! Or used to not be...
Why, from all decent suggestions, why this one gets implemented? AA was expansive as it should be, shields were expansive but not to the point to fix them by nerfing them into small soap bubbles...
    Why...

Or at least tried. It still seems to be nowhere close to a serviceable condition.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the problem with shields currently is not that they cost a lot, but that they do not recharge in combat.
Recharge is the big problem, yes. The other major issue I would say is that they cost way more power than the weapons needed to take them out.
