I actually really like this, though I'm the only one that can build at last half-decent looking ships so don't expect them to look amazing ;p
    Ships | StarMade Dock

I think for a server with a lifetime of 6 weeks, just using some finished ships from the old power would be sufficiet. I think if you also post a seperate thread asking for good suggestions for each size class, you will get plenty of answers. Just say "hey i need help I cant search the CC for hours and download the ships and test them, please guide me to working blueprints in 2k size, 10k size and so on."

I'm sure there are plenty of great ships that we could pick, but we really wanna stick to our theme ;p

We'll be making all the prefab ships ourselves, however if there is anyone who would like to make a ship for the server I'd be wrapped. ;)

I never use ships that are made from server owners. They are often of inferiour quality than those on the CC or of myself. And it's easy to top the quality of my ships pvp wise. And like allways the ships from server owners are not really pretty as they tried to make a bunch for having "something in stock".

So ofcourse I can totally agree on the benefits of using an own and unique server style.

But I think this benefit is heavily outweighted by the fact that it's too much work and people wont use it if you don't have some really pretty and pvp efficient ships. And making such ships, even for the 1k size, takes ages. So yeah I would totally love to have such ships as user, but for example on LvD they have this own built sort of ships in stock, and nearly no one ever uses them. Really not worth the effort to make second class own built ships, if you can have first class designs from the CC. Just use stuff from Tamren or any builder with a fleet, and you are set - and didn't waste time for ungratefull gamers like I am. ;)

But do the server like it's fun for you in the process. The most important part is, to have fun maintaining and creating a server. Just wanted you to reconsider if you want to invest the time to build own ships and if you really have the patience to get such a fleet running.

I find it interesting that the most active thread on the forum is how to play an old version of the game.
I wonder what thoughts that has given Shine.
They are grown up people, they look at it as part of the process. They made a decission and are happy with it, negative and positive sideeffects included.

And I don't mean in it in a condescending way, I just tell you that the viewpoint ("Can they be proud of their product?") you try to focus on here, is not the only one here ("We decided to go this way, and allready said like 100 times, that we know that the playerbase will decrease, and we also said that we are ready for that and have enough ressources.").

We are not married to Schema. As I said before, any version of this game is still Star-Made. We should say "Thank You Very Much" (with 10 $ or just in words) for what we already have. If Schema wants to develop their once nice game into some non-playable crap, it's theirs to do so. Nobody has to like it. We are not bound by some oath to beta-test the latest version no matter how we feel about it forever, year after year. Beta or Delta, we are here to play a game not to help a company find its way.

I love the latest version before rails and the first with rails the most, others love the latest 2017 version, others love to play the next development today's version. To each his own, but nobody should feel he must do something no matter if it's fun or not, out of some debt to some company. If you do not owe them money, you don't have to do anything but have fun. If you feel it's fun to help Schema, please do so. If you feel it's fun to yell at them or to DDos their servers, please do so.

And Schema is not married to us either...

I somehow think there are actually 3 main types of ships:

    - Starter utilitarian (0 RP, ~0 aesthetics miners, sometimes with other systems too, but not too many, like a JD for example. Not even their builders/owners like them. You can help people get over these if you give them one filled BP, no need for more if that one can do the job.)

    - Warships (90-100% efficiency as everyone sees it. Different play styles lead to different setups and shapes being the 100% efficiency for different players. Some external aesthetics are a must, as long as they do not contradict the 90-100% efficiency. Every cubic meter counts in size, mass and overall BP price. RP spaces are just as useless as they would be on a today's military U-boat. Exception would be spaced armor, where you can fill the space that needs to be empty with any crap you like, as long as you keep crap's mass low.)

    - Pleasure ships. (100% aesthetics, usually low efficiency, usually plenty of RP. You can call them automated miners or pleasure cruisers or "personal ship" or whatever. The truth is the systems-only starter utilitarian ships mine more blocks per second with lower mass, cheap and without automation as they were and your "personal dreadnought", if you like flying in it and you are proud of its looks, then it's definitely weaker than a warship of the same mass.)

I, personally, would prefer to have the warships and pleasure ships chosen by me, by uploading BPs and filling the BPs of my choice by myself with my own efforts. But, this is me and I am probably mistaking thinking all the other players have the same preferences as me.

PS: The personal choice in what is your 100% efficiency ship, what are your pleasure ships like and where you want your income to come from usually dictates the size and shape of your home-station and of its shipyard (if you like shipyards). Unless the station itself is your most treasured pleasure ship and then other things dictate its shape, size, color etc.

So prefab stations will be "meah, it works for now..." for literally everyone no matter how beautiful and useful they seem to the server owner.

hes saying you have the OPTION of using preloaded bps if youre a new player or lazy... hes not saying you HAVE to use them. feel free to upload your own. its just more choices.
