Hello hello. I am a long term Starmade player, and try to make a colorful faction. Any ideas or critique is welcome.

I am still working on details. I post an progress update now and then. Things that are final: Rules, Ranks. Right now I make the starter base. When the starter base is finished others can build on the homebase too.

One purpose of this thread is to give an easy access to the rules and ideas, when I find new members on servers. I just can't write and communicate that stuff each time, and I allways redirect them here so they can read up the rules. :)

    We play on Brierie.

    Info

Our main focus on shared station building and pvp-ship mass building below 150m or 10K (up to 30) mass. We also maintain unique build projects protected with alt-accounts homebase protection in our home galaxy. The focuses are for guidance: Everything possible, nothing is required.

We are an open for all faction. But you don't stay long if you don't fit (read rules). ;) We don't expect you to build good, have a high activity, or be a good pvper though. One focus is having some nice group of people. We don't want to win any pvp or contests.

The second focus is around pvp, we try to build and fight in ships below 10k mass. It doesn't make sense on Brierie because no one fights often with a ship that takes him 6 hours to mine. I rather mine 30 minutes and then can have another fight right again. :) That doesn't mean we want you to feel regulated in regards of building. You like to build bigger? Make your titan it will be nice. We support any project, the numbers are just for guidance.

Last focus is shared station building:

We give homebase build access to members we trust. It has a lightly regulated build-area setup. Houses come to the house area, cuboid builds that can get thrown next to each other in the other area, and the other builds that can be placed anywhere. Build fitting for the area, for example we also have hangars and a harbour area. The areas are allready laid out and the station I currently build has all the infrastructure to get expaned with the area-concept. The left front is harbour, right front is hangar entrances, behind left front comes the random cuboids, behind right front is the city area.

It doesn't look like much, but this station has inner walkways and infrastructure laid out for expansion into 4 dimensions. Only the front and the bottom are reserved for docking space, hangar access and shipyard.

    Philosophy and more details

As Starmade is often played for 2 weeks and then people take a pause again, we also aim to accommodate to this: We don't involve members too much if they do want their own thing. Everything can, nothing must. If you just want to build for 5 days a month or if you have another main faction with an alt-account it's fine too. We try to have fun, and try to use common sense. Our main goal is to have a nice group that wants to come together. We can use discord/teamspeak and we try to be nice to each other.

The main-HQ is free-for all building. It will have a colorful cluttered style. The only rule is to mark the space of your project before you start (your choice where, and if it's nice it can be bigger than 30x30x30), and to finish it within 2 weeks (time depends on size). If you reserve space you are expected to finish that project within 2 weeks (depending on size you can take longer it's just a guiding time).

The outpost bases that are protected with alt-accounts of the faction members, can have different build regulations and vary in all styles. Examples: Beginner Hostel for Noobs, Harbour, copied planet plate with western town on it, minigames, an abandoned ship with story in it, faction advertisment near spawn (maybe only as ship). We also try to have some backup outposts maintained by trusted members, if the main station has a chunk error or gets griefed from infiltrators. Faction members are supposed to bring resources there in relation to the main station's size.

    Ranks and their perks

    • Newcommer (has access to private storage and a factory, gets starter ships and some resources),

    • Settler (can post faction news, can invite new players, has access to the shared storage supplied by an adjustable autofactory, access to battleships below 10k mass),

    • Citizen (station build access, access to a backup storage if the shared one is empty),

    • Trustee (promotes and kicks people)
Rising in the ranks is totally depended on individual abilities, activity, and taking over responsibilities for the faction. We intend to give everyone rank 2 sooner or later so he can build on the station if he likes to.

    Build style
I don't like faction colors or advising a build style. People should build as they like and creative as they want.

If you want some guidance to orient on: My personal main fleet is grey and dark grey with heavy usage of exterior lights and detailing. But you are not bound to that, even though you are free to copy the style. Same goes for the station.

If we would want to agree on faction colors, we are having main grey + dark grey OR white+grey, and details of teal and orange with the colors next to them in the color circle.
    Rules
If you just got recruited: Try to get this to know right after you joined: Faction factories location, Newcommer Miners, Your private cargo container, shared storage setup. Please just fly directly to the station and don't let us wait. We want to show you the points within 3 minutes and then carry on with our own business. Don't be too demanding with our time and patience as we don't know if you even intend to stay. If you think about staying ask as much as you like. We are glad to help.

Read the faction thread regularly. Rule changes, projects and other stuff will get posted there.

Help each other. Help other members so they can help you out in return.

Mine asteroids completely, and also mine small ones if you see them.
Don't overflow the storages with stones (e.g. Dolom), and don't refine them if you don't need them. They are worth more in their block form.

Don't leave abandoned shipcores flying around the station.

What you take out you mine back sooner or later.

Set your permission to ships to rank 4 or higher. Ships can undock randomly, or sometimes we need to move stuff. You can loose your ships if you don't have your ships accessible.

Unload shipyard designs. If you are not online we are free to empty the shipyard. Everyone needs the shipyards.

    Show activity
We take care of your stuff if you are not not active anymore (out for longer than 4 weeks). Depending on individual judgment we demote players that are not playing to rank 4. We aim to not destroy their finished or progressing builds on stations or ships, but we might move them to an external outpost in some cases. In some circumstances builds will get deleted. Whether or not we kick players, move stuff or delete it is bound to common sense, and we are doing this as we think it's right and not on how it's written here.
If you showed some activity for longer than one week, and then are out for 30 days we are not deleting your stuff or demoting you. But we do this individually. Adding on Steam or Discord is a good way to prevent it. Two more examples: 1) You joined, mined and played for 3 days and started building on a titan. You added us on Steam, we write you and ask what's up. You say you don't play anymore but you didn't rule out staying in the faction. You keep your stuff and rank. 2) A SM-beginner joined, and after one day playing, he doesn't come back for over a week without any notice, not even a ingame message. We kick him and distribute his wealth.

    Don't grief
Infiltrating a faction to then steal resources or delete docked ships is for example forbidden on Brierie. We will report such an action to admins in their forum and on discord in every case and kick you immediately.

Not a rule but a reminder: Build pvp-ships below 10k (around 150m length).
Brierie has small mining bonuses. If you ever plan on fighting with your ship, make it not bigger than 150m or 10k mass. No one wants to fight with ships that took 5 hours of mining time. We want to have many pvp fights. And they are more likely to happen if our ships are not that big and can easily recovered. You can build what you like though. It's just convenient if it fights often too.

    Recruitment

You can write an application if you like to via pm or in this thread.

But you don't have to, if you just meet me ingame. Just fly over to our station on Brierie. We don't shoot you if you don't shoot first. :) We will invite you as rank 4 member and you can get used to us.

If you decide to stay in the faction and want to rise up in ranks I want you to either make an application in this thread or to give me the information down below somehow. It's also enough if you just pm me the details.

    • Steam name for contacting, possibly discord too

    • Age

    • Confirmation that you read and want to obey the rules, including to comply to our goals.

    • Your Goals (just comming together, shared station building, building on projects together, pvp, learning starmade)(optional).

    • Ideas and projects you like to do when you join (optional).

    • Former Experience with screenshots. (optional).

    About Multi Account Factions
Multi Account stations and projects will be listed here.
Also the multi-account factions with their leader will be listed here. They are called Sub-Factions following a seperate theme.
    R2Boyo : The Federation

I asked on Brierie and LvD server, booth admins allow them as long as you do not grief or lag the server (for example the server would lag if you build a station right to an enemies homebase).

    Faction Politics
PM me first when you got problems. Declarations of war not in this thread. If you like to declare war pm me, I make a faction politics thread so you can make it public, and we can discuss it. No problem. =)

    Members
Right now me and two others.

    So this is a commune?
    Commune - Wikipedia
In the German commune book, Das KommuneBuch, communes are defined by Elisabeth Voß as communities which:

    • Live and work together,
    • Have a communal economy, i.e. common finances and common property (land, buildings, means of production),
    • Have communal decision making – usually consensus decision making,
    • Try to reduce hierarchy and hierarchical structures,
    • Have communalization of housework, childcare and other communal tasks,
    • Have equality between women and men,
    • Have low ecological footprints through sharing and saving resources.
To answer your question: I am not sure if you talk about the same definition of commune, as I do.

What do you reffer to, when you ask if we are commune? Do you reffer to the shared building part? Or if we make decissions mututally?

I don't know, are there capitalist and communist factions as well then? :)

The only lore that exists right now, is for the name of the faction. Leroi Santik Monnud founded an industrialist empire and now literally owns half of the galaxy, and his suppliers are sub factions like the Space-Bear Machines mercenaries and the Monroe Corporporation. After his death the conglomerate still exists, and is now lead by a directorative group. I think socialist wouldn't fit the story here.

A commune is where everyone puts into a common resource pool and takes out from a common resource pool. Usually people say this kind of setup doesn't work but with the amount of players most Skub factions had its doable.

Ah allright. Yeah I will take this into account and think about it. Right now it's all shared factionwide. I guessed people can just take their share of ressources out of the factions storage, if they don't like to share. But that maybe can go wrong? We will see.

This sounds like an idea I can get behind, possibly interested. Just has been a long time and not sure how many hours I can put in a week.

    Yeah, Update. :)

    starmade-screenshot-1240.png
So I will rework the description and rules. It stays with the ranks, but it will sound easier to build what you like without feeling restricted. But I need to reword stuff so people get that image.

Currently I make the foundation station, that can be later on built on from the members. It will be expandable into one quartal direction for cubicle addons (anything can be slapped there), and into another direction city plates will be built. Below the city plates will be hangars.

I added in a faction wide factory, with a faction accessible ore drain pipe. Newcommers use a small general storage. It's half automated: Automatic refining, selected blocks can be autoproduced with activating the activation module. Then there will be factories that fully automatically produce goods for the general big storage (also faction accessible via perm. modules). But production line behind the big storage with a lot more blocks, like all colored hulls, will not be accessible (unless you got build rights).

To counter the flaws of communism, there will be safe cargo containers that are docked to the station, they allways drain a certain ammount of blocks for higher rank players. So lower rank players can't use up all shared ressources and higher rank players will allways have their own safe storage if the common storages are depleted. It's intended though that all ranks just use the big shared storage and the backup containers act as emergency if communism fails.

Today I tried out racegates, I try to incorporate a racetrack into the layout. The blocks will be hidden below hull, and if a race is activated plex doors will activate as guard railings. The track will follow corridors over all levels and I just finished a racer concept that is 3 wide and 5 long.
    starmade-screenshot-1252.png starmade-screenshot-1251.png

On a bigger version (or maybe even this one, I will figure that out eventually) of this station will also be chess game (WIP image). It will be publicly accessible. As the game itself is only like 200 blocks heavy it can be easily respawned and redocked if people steal pieces. And a little lasertag arena? Maybe. :)

    Update. :)
    starmade-screenshot-1309.png
The rules rework is on its way. I gathered many ideas, and try to lighten the ammount of text heavily. I plan to include only the basic rules for newcommers in this thread, and to give a small overview on what this faction offers. The advanced inner workings of this faction will be written in a seperate part.

And I am halfway done with the starter station. The inner walls are all laid out, and now only the gimmnics are missing. But the station is working in its basic functions: Full Autofactory with ore/mineral overflow protection, a seperated manual factory, and much more like public docks and cargo pulling into backup storages if the shared storages are empty.
The current state of the all-goods factory. starmade-screenshot-1297.png Medium hangar, housing hoverbikes and backup cargo containers.

    starmade-screenshot-1306.png
I try to keep the text on the station now very concise. People have to read up information on Starmadedock. This thread will have only the basic information for beginners to look up. The advanced build rules will seperated into a spoiler or to another thread in the politics subforum.
    starmade-screenshot-1307.png

The whole WIP and docked stuff around the station.
I have one faction member who is eager on building a titan, as you see in the back of the image. His ressource and ore refining demands are a good test for the autofactory. I adjusted many things so the factory accomodates to such big requirements.

    Hello again.

I updated the factions description. It should be much cleaner now. It is completely rewritten and with better pictures.

As I have an ingame bug that prevents me from putting too much displays with text on entities, I am having the rules now all in this thread.

There has also been made some nice progress on the station I am building.

Just a quick heads up: I finished the promissed starter station to 80%.

I just stopped playing for a while because I wait for the weapons update. While playing with the new power I thought the weapons update would hit earlier.

It's not like I don't have interest into mainting the faction idea.

Next idea is, to maybe split the roles into creators and players. Booth can be done at the same time as one member, but it's easier to explain this way. Main reason is, that I am an older player and am very interested into the creative and gameplay evolving part of the game. Things like having maintained outposts, that can also be accessed from non faction members. But the majority of the Starmade player base is more into playing the pvp and action part.

So I think when I split the faction descriptioin up, and say you can just join and play straight away with with working your way to the top of the "players" (mining, fighting, getting ships, supplying outposts and trading), I think it's easier to understand. And then I offer the other role as "creator", and there is no restriction for being one inside the faction, where you can build stuff either for yourself or for the factions gameplay. Booth will be encouraged equally, and I personally think I like to play booth roles equally within the game.

But it's hard to attract builders that very interested into a detailed rp build and gameplay style, and that also want to build to supply the server with minigames or rp-functional stations.

It's not like I even need a lot of people in the faction. Ofcourse it would be nice, and my aim is to make the faction as attractive to join as possible. But for me it's allready satisfying if I just work on it. In the end the differentiation between creator and player would be key. It's fun to play with some builders, even if they just play actively from time to time. But being a builder in a faction is even more attractive if you have some players that like to use your stuff. I just don't know jet how to formulate the factions description in that way. I have too many ideas and can't streamline them. In the end the description should be attractive for some experienced builders, and they shall know that the faction is about being chill and coming online when you like to and don't being required to be active. But on the other hand I also want players, that just use stuff. So you have some life in the faction.

In the end for me it's allready interesting figuring out how to do such thing. It's allways easy to find a group of small people that share the same interest. But making a working ecosystem with different kinds of goals and different playerstyle is another story.

I totally aim to high, I am aware of that. I should just make the description so the faction is attractive to builders. On the other hand Starmade servers are 90% populated of action and pvp oriented players, and I guess a build only faction will not be attractive enough. I mean for me it would not be very attractive to join such a build faction where people are not online 6 of 7 days and you come onto the station just to build on your own ship.

Working on it. You never stop learning. ;)

    Meanwhile my latest progress pictures:
    Chief's Quarter: starmade-screenshot-1402.png

Another view into the station's Lounge and Bar: starmade-screenshot-1404.png

-> Booth, chief's quarters, and the lounge, have a second lighting setting. They get darker and have a more "exotic" light in orange and purple. The lounge, if you look closely to the wall at the back right, has even some sort of festoon, where the differently colored lights blink one after another.

A view into the unfurnished control and radar room of the station (CIC):
