It's currently quite difficult and awkward to get an angle smaller than 45 degrees using rail rotators, and it's (AFAIK) also impossible to rotate it back to flat again afterwards due to the use of transparent blocks to block the entity in, the current method of achieving smaller angles.

I would like to propose a different way to do that that won't need blocks to keep it in place: Manually setting angle in the Rotator itself.

Similarly to hitting R on a thruster, it'd bring up a small GUI, with a circle and a line which can be dragged to determine the maximum angle you want the entity to rotate to.

    (terrible cobbled-together example)

Or, even better, integrate this functionality into the Advanced Build mode when a rail rotator is selected as a block to build.

Any thoughts on how useful, how feasible, etc?

Just as a quick tip for those who didn't work with this yet... in certain applications, turret axis blocks can be used as well to set docked parts of a structure to odd angles manually.

yes pls. so much work setting up the fancy bits on deco ships. and you can ruin it all with 1 click in the turrets menu

I would like to retain the ability to alter the degree of rotation through logic. Maybe we could link a display module and enter the degrees and direction of rotation in some format eg. [rotator]69ccw. It could also serve for rail speed settings or sensor levels perhaps.

I don't have a strong opinion on this but I could see rail rotators being set up more like the sensor blocks. If you put down two module you would rotate 180 degrees and if you but down 10 you would rotate 36 degrees. It would take more blocks but in a large ship that is meaningless.

you know i don't always get what you guys are saying when talking about the blocks but there more abilities the blocks have in game the better buildings and ships your guys come out with need a simple and advanced build mode lol
