    Howdy everyone,
Recently a new forum rank has appeared, this rank is Mentor.

Initially two people have been awarded this rank.
    SchnellBier and AtraUnam

This rank is to recognise the players dedicated to building and advancing their knowledge of the game, while improving the game for others, either by inspiring, advancing logic or metagame knowledge, or through reporting bugs, having outstanding knowledge of the game mechanics, or by creating outstanding builds.

Members of the community are able to be nominated for this role, simply PM me or create a forum post nominating them (or yourself) stating why, providing evidence.

People with this role gain extra functionality on the forums. They can edit their own messages in chat, have more content in their signatures and gain some low-level moderation powers across the forums and chat.

People to be nominated and accepted for this rank will have their warning history cited before being accepted.

    ~ Cru

As pleasing as this rank would be to apply for personally, I feel like I don't have a large enough grip on the game to apply, let alone teach others. I'd be happy to learn though!

I think you can get there, just need to learn more about the technical aspects of the game and help others with it when questions arise. I personally look forward to hopefully seeing you in light purple text one day.

Can't speak for Schnell but based on the time of your post it appears that we are 7-9 hours apart in terms of timezones which would probably suggest why you haven't seen me online. And yes hopefully everyone is trying to improve their knowledge of the game, but part of the stipulation was also helping others increase their knowledge of the game, something which both myself a Schnell do frequently.

Maybe we need a section of the forum for player questions? Unless its just to be thrown in general discussion, so far the questions ive seen have been ingame or on a discord channel.

Why ? You can just ask someone in game, or trough messages. If you have anything more complicated, or need more advice, then you can start a thread in general discussion.

If no one is on your server, and you dont want to look dumb, someone else might have asked it before you. if you just want to look at blanket questions, could also be a place to learn tips and place tutorials.
Currently we have to direct players to youtube and watch vids, giving them a list to read through

If people have questions they could ask the chat here, or create a general discussion. An entire forum page for questions would be filled with simple questions, that once answered never get read again.
Sure it'd be helpful as Mentor's could help those in need, but an entire forum page for questions is going to be filled then forgotten until another person asks a question.

I do believe the General subforum serves this purpose already

Shaker everyone is free to come to the dock chat to ask questions, theres usually someone on there and often those people are ones who have been around for a long time and are perfectly willing to answer any questions.
[doublepost=1501696023,1501695941][/doublepost]On that note anyone with a question about ingame mechanics is free to PM me directly, I'll answer to the best of my ability, and if I can't then I'll endever to find out what the answer is.

So I know I talked about this when the role first came out last Friday, but I feel that it should be put somewhere more permanent than the chat: why should this role get any moderator powers?

I agree with the idea of celebrating outstanding community members, and the people who already have the role definitely deserve it, but this seems like an odd pairing. Yes, their new mod powers only affect the chatroom. Yes, abuse can be rectified quickly. Should the bulk of the work to get chat mod powers be related to gameplay? No. Should any new account on SMD meet the other half of the qualifications to those powers? Also no.

I'm okay with a Chat Mod role. It'll help with the current mod shortage we currently have. I'm fine if the standards are a tad lower than full forum mod. I'm also fine with all of the current Mentors receiving that role too. But for heavens sakes, lets have more standards to who we hand out power to than this. If the older members' stories are to be believed, we've already made mistakes regarding mods once.

Lastly, I do hope that the decision makers keep a sharp eye on this so that it doesn't end up being a popularity contest the next time the game gets a large influx of players.

To anyone with the Mentor position, I hope I didn't bother you with this. I'm glad you've stuck around to be models toward other players. I just don't think the position also warrants moderator powers, and want to have them use different criterea for who gets the roles.

Please be aware that we are testing this as we implement it, changes can and probably will be made as we discuss this on an ongoing basis and see it in practice.
