A question about thrust....

    I am fairly sure there are diminishing returns when adding thruster blocks to a ship, aside from the usual mass/thruster ratio.

    Does anyone know the optimal number of thrusters for best thrust-block count ratio? Assume no other mass besides a core for instance.

    with just a core and no other mass, 1 thruster puts you at 2.5.

    there isnt an optimal, because "best thrust-block count" is subjective, and overall tmr goals are different per player. just know it gets really shitty as you get up in weight and are trying to fling around 100k+ stuff at 1.5+ tmr.

    Yes, but putting aside the thrust to mass issues, there is a diminishing return per thruster placed..... for instance, I receive only 0.9 per thrust block currently, ao there is an optimal amount per block (whether or not that optimal amount will be the correct amount for any particular ship is reliant on the ship's mass of course, but thats not what I'm looking for here)

    For instance: an entity containing 100 thrusters would provide 181.6 thrust. So ten of them, independently, would contain 1000 thruster blocks total and provide a total of 1816. A single docked entity containing 1000 thruster blocks would only provide 1346.4 thrust. Could you theoretically dock the 10 entities and sort of bypass the diminishing returns?

    Used to be that way, now it's total blocks inherited calculated for thrust value to "stop" that thrust-limit bypass. Too many "cripple big ships" design choices in the pas 3 years by the devs IMHO, but it is what it is.

    Ahhh, gotcha. Its unlikely that cap will hinder me regardless, but I was looking for max efficiency. I only have two docked entities on my cruiser that I'm currently designing, each of which will be an "engine"....so I didn't know whether to split the total amount of thrusters evenly or if it wouldn't make a difference....and that answers it rather adeptly, so thanks again!

    you don't have to worry so much, with the new power system coming, i think there will also be a re-balance for thruster coming soon, maybe even a new equation
