Ok so this has been suggested here and there: lower resolution texture packs of 32 and 16. We don't even need any textures for those sizes, just the features to actually create, and the community will supply the textures eventually.

The main argument to lower resolution textures:
-lower your graphic settings if your fps sucks
-no one cares about 32 or 16 bit
-deal with it because everyone has big rig computers.

My counter-argument to lower resolution textures:
-I don't want to lower my graphic settings, in fact I want to raise the segment limit as high as it can go without any performance issues. and best shadows, and anything else that's available.
    -Minecraft. Nuff said.
-No, not everyone has an expensive computer, nope.

So I hope to see this happen on release. I can wait, but it would be nice to know if it can be done, so I can start working on one, or you, or anyone.

I agree that this would be a good thing to be inclusive. I think Kupu can provide a texture template on request.

    Additional Suggestion:
I would supplement this suggestion with a suggestion that the "animated" textures on a "budget" texture set should be made as similar as possible, if not exactly the same.

    Reason:
I have read where people say that the game -should- handle animated textures just as quickly as single-frame (non-animated) textures, but I have first-hand experience with animated textures cutting my FPS by as much as 90%. The kind of situation we're talking about is an extensively detailed hull (good FPS) versus being inside, placing a bunch of shield blocks of the same type, not even seeing other blocks, except maybe some hull, and having 10% FPS. My computer is no slouch or potato, so 10% of my normal FPS is still playable. However, that may not be the case for the computers of other players.

I could be mistaken, but I don't think that the texture resolution is starmade has much to do with lag. Texture resolution is handled by your GPU, but what starmade is really intensive for, that causes the most lag, is processor. Upgrading your GPU or downgrading graphics probably won't make any real difference.
