    Project Olympus
building the first artificial dodecahedron planet in starmade

well.. started this project thinking its gonna be epic, and i did not foresee big problems at first. But
actually making sure that all plates are oriented and alligned the same way real planets are..was no simple feat.

all 12 plates are docked on top of rail structures, each one with 3x 180 degree joints and a 5 block height regulator on the last joint.
all this so I could precisely recreate the basic form of the real planet.

once this is done, phase 2 of this project begins.. building the huuge pentagonal plates, each with its own custom city, biome, etc. up for suggestions really.

(the main planet frame will be up for download for anyone who wants to dock custom planet plates)
    Main planet frame progress:

I'd say this is a pretty good solution to all those people who want a planet base. This is an awesome thing for the community. I'd always assumed it was possible, but this is the first I've ever seen it done.

Nice one. Maybe one of the plate could be... Well an artificial world/biome as in computer world (think Tron)

    thanks guys :)
i will build few tiers of plate sizes.so you can have small planets, medium, large, and huge.
depending on what you like more :D

and from that point.. i expect some really cool custom plates being made.
my end goal is to see quite a lot of people using these, building their own plates and docking them on this base structure :)
and when we start combining all those plates into unique planets,we could populate the universe with thousands of unique planets.

could also be a cool idea if this got in game, how cool would it be if you found an artificial planet.
    with plates built by community

Well heck, I'm in! You put that up on the dock, and I'll put up any plates I make. This could be epic.

Project Olympus - better version update 1.1
building the first artificial dodecahedron planet in starmade

so.. the first attempt at building dodecahedron planet failed.
    too many rail joints
(all of them were hinge joints, not a single front-backwards rail) that had to be perfectly aligned because error margins were huge for planets over 100r.

(gaps and wierd angles grow exponentialy the bigger you try to make the planet, which restricted it to only 90m radius planets if you wanted it to look somewhat good)

so.. what did Skylord do?? He did some math, some geometry, and some magic, and built a way better system for this, now i have full confidence
(as you will see in the pictures bellow) that this new system will handle up to 1000m radius planets with really small (1-10m ) error margins. perfect!!

here is the progress on the new scaffold planet:

I'm wondering what it would take to make a 60km planet. But that's just me being nuts. This is awesome, and I can't wait to screw around with it! :)

Well i will try to go as big as i can,i think 2-3 km would be the limit, which is still insane. I mean.. You could dock carriers and titans inside each plate xD

Hey, with 2-3km, we can go all Shield World/Requiem on it and start making multi-layered planets. And, like, surface detail with underground constructions. Awesomeness achieved.

I think you could PROBABLY handle that with a radius of 1km already.
