I was wondering why this was not made a part of the race gates... It would be so awesome to have the ability to bring an impromptu race with you wherever you go, and would easily promote this new feature to be flexible.

It's just odd that they're restricted to only stations to be honest....

It needs to be part of the capital ship update or given a special activation logic, so that the ship is somehow "anchored" (maybe docked to a station or planet) during the race so that wayward racers don't cause massive physics problems, including massive lag, if they strike the racetrack ship.

Docking it to something would defeat the purpose of it being on a ship. Maybe the gates become temporarily static while the race progresses?

I know ship-to-ship connections can be made, seeing as wireless logic is able to do it, so hopefully that won't be a hard issue.

Because of the way the data is stored for both race gates and warp gates (as you have to link them with the marker beam) if they moved from their location they'd instantly lose connection. We'd have to totally rebuild these systems from the ground up and it would result in these systems being a bit more processor intensive to recalculate each time.

why not making something that when you power up the race computer thing it locks your ship in place?(like a station) and for it be able to move again you need to desactivate the computer

    Something something something

Related/Unrelated to gates in general.. I'm still not able to appear directly at the gate when using two gates on the same station as an astronaut . I appear about 160m away. My gates are 5x5 (leaving 3x3 walking space) on each side and about 300m apart.

So, you can't make them work similarly to the activation gates with built-in wireless logic instead without a rebuilding of them then?

I'm also curious about what testkil said, would locking the entities work?

Wireless logic is easy as it's not contextual position data, it's merely 0 or 1 mattering if it should be on or off. It doesn't matter where the wireless logic block is in space, but with gates it does.

testkil it may be possible but again would still require a complete rebuild.

My tests with stations, which were force-docked to a ship via file-editong, revealed, that even though the gate wouldn't cause entities passing through it to warp, it could always be used as a destination, regardless of where it was moved. Each time it changed sectors, a new warpgate-line appeared on the galaxy map. While these tests are old, I have no reason as to why the results should have changed

Are race gates the same as the trigger gates that got added? Because I can definitely see a use for gates on a carrier to determine if a ship is internal. (Sorry, I have only played with the teleporters so far and not any gate mechanisms.)

Yes, the "passing through it to warp" bit is kind of the issue here, since Race Gates seem to work on a similar principle.

Stations (and thus gates) force-docked to ships is no longer a thing I'm afraid, Schine fixed that one in a pretty ingenious way.
