A few of use had this idea that all types of purple stuff should spread much like the grass on minecraft except on a conntact basis. but instead of just a top layer it transformes the block its "infecting" into the purple stuff, for obvious reasons the spread shouldnt be very fast so you can counter it by removing the infected blocks, however if neglected it will continue to infect the rest of the ship. this could be a whole new faction/enemy that would provide another elemnt to the game it would then become more like a species/bacteria to fight off.

You\'re reffering to Thurmcraft, and that infection (corruption) had to do with the \"aura\" in the local region.
Perhaps a virology simulation akin to that of Space Station 13\'s would be more appropriate.

Thaumcraft? the minecraft magic addon, enough dark magic corruption would cause an infectious block conversion.
this would be similar, but simply, if theres a purple vine adjacent, it can spread, no \"corruption aura\" needed

In my opinion purple stuff here, its intersting but quite dangerous cause some stupid griefer can spread it in a purpose ,and at some point it may be unstopable. (imagine u are going offline for few months cause lets say you working abroad after that time on your off coming back home loging in back, and finding your super well builded base turned into it, just because there was no one to replace few blocks after griefer visit.) If someone really wants to spend time fighting this make it optional on server. ( i will avoid those servers )
now just short story : i saw that thaumcraft in tekkit or technic (minecraft) i dont remember now which one was that, and besides that it was ultra stupidity to put such hoodo voodo addon in clearly technic pack, the purple stuff except that its spreading and truns everything on its way into purple stuff is totally useless, not to mention annoying tons of crazy \"magic\" equipment, it was bad addon that ruined good modpack. I will cut my weins if someone want to introduce magic in Star Made.

Eeh... I always hated the spread of corruption in games like terraria, like, these sorts of things cam ruin the game for some people o^o

Aside from that.. I... Don\'t really see what this adds other than an annoyance you need to contend with? Just my opinion..

This would make almost zero impact in game. The problem, you see - is that this \'purple stuff\' is seperated from everything else by SPACE.
Once again, in case anybody missed it -
    SPACE.
You cannot troll people by putting \'purple stuff\' on their protected entities. Go ahead, try! It\'ll be fun when nothing happens.
I\'m not sure about the point of this, but some people seem to get excited about it, and more power to them. But don\'t shoot it down because you think it will ruin your game - when it obviously will not.

It would be fairly easy for some jerk to just go around seeding planets with this stuff and then idle nearby so that it spreads..

In any case (assuming you were directing that at me, if not, then ignore this I guess,) I wasn\'t shooting his idea down becasue I don\'t like it, I was just saying that it actually _wouldn\'t_ add much to the game, and so why should precious dev\' time be spent on it?

I think it kind of sounds like a mechanic for the benefit of those currently role playing it as if it were real now. I don\'t think it really adds much to the game, and with it being autonomous and growing, it could have serious unintended consequences (in addition to trolling potential) in a game universe that is supposed to go on forever.
If the contagion could have behavioral constraints, such as it being bound to (and being unable to grow/exist outside of) a certain sector (or range of sectors), then it could instead be more of a space hazard, and less a universal annoyance/problem with the potential to expand geometrically.
