Hey, while I've been building my shipyard project, I realized that going between remote parts of the ship by foot is going to be an absolute pain. So what if we could make a system that would allow a player to select a location from a list of teleport sites throughout the ship for instantanious transport? Teleport sites (blocks) could be categorized with a tag system, so I could have somethin like "deck 1, fore; deck 2, fore; deck 1, aft; deck 2, aft; deck 1, aft, medbay;"
The user could narrow visible choices by anything with the "deck 1" tag and see "deck 1, aft; deck 1, fore; deck 1, aft, medbay"

It sounds like something Schema would consider once the flagship functionality has been addressed. Nice suggestion!

Yeah, I like the idea of teleporters.
Would they be linked in pairs, or all linked to a \"network\"?
EG: Tele1 will only link to Tele2, and Tele2 only links with Tele1... OR Tele1 links to every tele (2, 3, 4, 5, etc) and the same with all the other Teleporters.
I\'m thinking if they are all connected in a net, there needs to be a limit to the range of teleporters (think stargates) so say up to 10 sectors or something?

I was thinking they would be in a network, and that network would only apply to the ship.
I didn\'t really want to approach the idea of ship-to-ship transportation here, but perhaps networks with matching friendly codes (or something like that) could \"beam\" in to a designated entry point. That would of course need a range limitation like you were saying.
My current issue is that I have a ship that\'s already several kilometers long (and it\'s even wider!) with a planned length somewhere in the range of 10km-20km, and it\'s already a pain to navigate just building it.

That is an incredibly large ship... how big are the sectors again? xD

I dont know exactly, but sectors seem to be somthing like 3km across, you can build outside that, but youll wind up sectoring to the next zone after walking down like 3k of your ship

2600 M distance from a waypoint to the opposite one.

And this idea is actually great, and made in a Network system, as simple as adding a new entry in a list with each \"Instant Transportation\" block.

    +1 for a great suggestion :D

It is a good thread, even schema posts here.

Can we make this sticky? Or at least link from all other teleporters, TELEPORTERS, teleporters-0, ... threads to here?

I would like a list with friendly ships (Each ship has a special entry-point or a public hirachical tree) and a hirachical tree for your own ship (just like explorer with folders and files or regedit.exe).

The ring platforms on Stargate are an excellent example of this.
