    hi everyone,

    over the past few weeks ive been toying with a way to increase the enjoyment i get out ship to ship combat, and i have come to this set of conclutions.

    -when fighting large ships there is no real way cripple sub-systems without overwealming there total defences

    -ships lack complexity in their construction

    -turrets aim at the core of enemy ships, leaving them totaled instead of crippled

    with these problems in ming i have come up with a solution Modular design, it can be achived in the game currently with some difficultys but it mainly srves a cosmetic purpose, i propose three new features;

    1) a checkbox on the adv build menu for linking the systems of a docked ship to the main ship, i.e. ur docked engine nessels will acctually propel ur ship and give other player the ability to cripple ur movement. or a new type of docking block called a "linking block" same function just diffrent way around the problem

    2) the ability to choose the orientaition of docked ships/modules, this would work in the same way as orientating blocks and wedges only with a ghost imige of the ship ur docking or an arrow ontop of the docking block

    3) the ability to switch all bobby ai's on your ship between selective and free firing, this would then allow you to selectivly target the modules of enemy ships in 1v1 engagment but also allow you to tackle swarms aswell

    i hope if any of these ideas were used in starmade that it would add a new complexity to the combat system and ship building. these changes would aslo be able to co-enside with the current system allowing for a difficuly curve providing more of a challenge for seasoned players and still remaining easy enough to crasp by new player.

    sorry for any spelling errors and thankyou for your time

    What about shield piercing ion cannons that fire a slow reloading emp that disables any systems they hit for a few seconds as an aoe attack. Or screw shield piercing and make them slow down shield regen/damage shields instead if the shields are up.

    Similar to FTL\'s ion cannons.

    while more weapon variation is always a good idea in my book, its not reallty the point of my post im trying to identify away to improve the game with the tools we already have (plus a couple of little tweeks) rather then add more content.

    thanks for the comment though, its always good to see others point of view

    My idea on modular ships is that you would have a modular dock. This would be a lot simpler than what you are suggesting since that would be very time consuming. Maybe to orientate which direction you want your ship to be facing you can adjust that in the modular dock so that it\'s more about the main ship than the individual \"mods\".
