Wouldn't it be cool if you could reconfigure your weapons as needed on the fly.
    For Example:

I've build a ship with the following weapon configuration: (Primary/Secondary/Effect)
    4 x Damage Beam / Cannon / Explosive
    2 x Missile / Damage Pulse
1 x Ion Effect (for shield bonus)

I would like to be able to quickly switch out my Explosive effect for Ion effect while in combat to take down shields. Or maybe I'd like to be able to quickly tie my Damage Beam to my Missiles for smaller fast moving targets. Or maybe I'm in a situation where a player is using Push or Pull effects on his weapons. I'd like to be able to use my Explosive effect computer defensively.

So on my ship, I already have a core / computer room / switch board where I can jump out, or go to build mode to reconfigure my weapons, but depending on the situation, I may not have time to jump out of the cockpit even for a second.

I think this could be fixed with a "Unlink" button in the Weapon button. Simply click on the secondary or Effect computer, and then hit the Unlink button. This would move the computer down to the bottom of the weapon list were it could be added to another system, or assigned to the hot bar on it's own.

    Thanks

Having been doing this "on the fly" since the weapons update, and getting awesome results even though it's a little hard to manage, I love this idea. Not a single complete ship has passed through my yards since then that I have not had unassigned effects, or some progressive iteration of my command room:

I tend to even switch barrels/weapons out from primary and secondary, again for the situation at hand. I'll say it again, having control buttons, or even link commands to put in a quickbar, would be amazing. Alternately, I have been meaning to test one of my ships with a crew member "Manning" the weapons control over teamspeak. I expect even more amazing results from both of these possibilities.

The weapons menu is a bit awkward to do this with, so you really need a crew member in a room with all the computers like Lidren has there. Perhaps some refinements to the weapon menu are in order to make it less clunky.

You can already this, go into build mode (or have a second player inside the ship) and just manually reconnect the computers. If you are sensible in the computer placement it takes a couple of seconds at most.

I sort of like this, but on the other hand it would cause two things: making ships even more one ship does all in function, and mean that using macros to quickly change subsystems is going to be a fairly important thing.

I know this is an ancient thread. I have searched the forum with different search strings, but couldn't find a more recent relevant thread.
Would really love to be able to connect and dis-connect secondary & tertiary effects via the weapons menu (seems like a logical choice).

Alternatively, would be nice to be able to manage the effects connections via blocks (logic blocks seem appropriate) - I know weapons & effects can be activated/deactivated via logic, obviously, but it would also be nice to be able to manage their connections* - have a logic block sit in between a weapons computer and effect computer and turn that connection/slaving on and off. That would give the ability to connect & disconnect an effect via inner-ship remote in a hotbar.

I haven't found an alternative solution (besides build-mode and/or control room), if it exists - I apologize.

This used to be done on the fly in StarMade. You just opened the Weapons Tab and moved the computers around. In the same way you dragged the computers to your hotbar to use it.

You were free to combine all the computers that you had build into your ship.

It was quick, it was versatile and it got removed.

The fact that build mode when first entered or when 'x' is pressed always puts the camera about 8 blocks behind the core can help in making computer rooms for effect switching easier to use.

i measured the distance (hint, it doubled when we changed from 16chunk to 32chunk) and use it to make ll sorts of things easier and more reliable

    Yeah :(

I revived the thread in hopes for a proper convenient way, logically through the weapons menu. Or maybe even through a logical management of computer connections.

But for now, we'll be doing it the only way we can - build mode with all the computers conveniently in one place.

Reconfiguring weapons (or any system, really), is very "sci-fi" and neat, and should be a part of the game. Since it is already possible, easier ways to make it happen should not be Overpowered, and multiplayer crew (or maybe enhanced AI crew in the future) would be a fun thing to coordinate this. (Maybe an easier way to reconfigure systems will come with command chairs...)
