When in early survival, having a good, fast, cheap and reliable mining ship is incredibly important. When in late game, a mining drone with those qualities is desirable, but if it's also light, can be left alone for some time before full and can be mounted in numbers on a mothership?
That's priceless.
It's unarmed, but it is fast, has some shields and is pretty disposable.
Behold! The Piglet...
It has a fair-sized array of salvagers, a small interior that has been left RP blank, windowed storage for easy visual inspection of cargo levels in the 22k, rail-docker-linked hold, a sunken cockpit and the whole thing is only covered in basic hull to keep it light and cheap.
After the salvagers quickly dispose of a few roids, a solid thrust/mass ratio will keep things moving, even when The Piglet is full.
Protected by a modest, yet fairly spryly recharging shield, it is designed to survive a quick withdrawal, should enemies appear. (Stats in first image.)
It is chamber-boosted only for power to ensure simplicity and that all systems run without stability issues.
More importantly, it is fairly compact, with a regular size and shape which not only allows them to be mounted externally on a mining mothership, but may even make that the more attractive option!
If parked on a more long and slender ship, they can be docked nose-to-nose in an offset manner, or directly nose to nose in order to look just like another part of the mothership.
They could even plug into a hole in the side of a mothership when they dock and become crew quarters for the larger vessel with the center-mounted force-field door opening directly into the interior.
But as I said, if it's an early survival game for you, then finding a place to park a single Piglet is no problem at all.
